Construction Stopped on Boys & Girls Club Site

The 8-acre site was to house the largest Boys & Girls Club facility in the area; construction halted - economy blamed.

Construction on the Boys & Girls Clubs site in French Valley has been put on hold, according to the club’s CEO.

In 2009, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County said they had hoped to have the building open to the areas estimated 10,000 teens by early 2010.

“The French Valley Capital Campaign was in full swing just as the economy declined,” CEO Maryann Edwards told The Californian last week. “Because pledge timelines were extended, the board of directors elected to place the construction of the French Valley clubhouse on hold pending fulfillment of the outstanding pledges.”

“We understand because of the current economy how tough it is on some people,” she said.

Over $4.6 million had been raised toward construction on the 8-acre site, with the proposed clubhouse to be three times larger than the two existing ones in Temecula.  That construction money is beling held aside in a restricted account that cannot be used for other purposes.
