A mining company appealed a decision that would stop it from building a quarry near Temecula.
Granite Construction filed the appeal this week, according to Ray Smith, a spokesperson for the county said on Thursday.
The plan was rejected 4-1 by the Riverside County Planning Commission first in a vote on Aug. 31, then with a finalizing vote on Dec. 7.
The appeal means the decision will go over the heads of the planning commission and into the hands of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
The company vowed to appeal the decision, but the appeal could be filed only after the plan's rejection was finalized, Granite officials said. To read about the company's plan, click here.
The plan will build a 115-acre mine on a property spanning more than 400 acres in the hills just south of Temecula and just east of the Santa Rosa Ecological Preserve. To read details about the plan, click here.

Bob Buster and Jeff Stone need to vote against this travesty, as do the other county supervisors. There is nothing in the quarry plan to redeem the loss of quality of life and great air quality for the 100,000s of thousands of people who will be negatively affected by this quarry. The quarry will bring a few low-paying jobs to the area, while cancelling out innumerable more high-paying jobs in the tourist industry supported by wine country and Pechanga. Bob, Jeff, please show Granite that you support the PEOPLE who vote for you, not the corporate interests.

I would ask the organizers of those opposed to the quarry to contact our State Representatives, as well as our Federal Representatives and Senators, too. This issue strikes hard at trying to wiggle around the will of the people in Temecula, secondly, to stop ruining our region's environment, and thirdly, to stop ruining economic opportunities as a growth center of influence in Riverside County.

The quarry will get their permit, like it or not. They'll up the payoffs to the politicians. Boy, you all live in a sheltered world..............

Those politicians don't care about holding office; they already have their payoff money. Do you really think those politicians get into office to help the voters? No, it's to line their own pockets.......Unfortunately, this is the real world. Once they get heir money, the office they hold means nothing to them....In other words "so don't re-elect me....I got mine....."

Here we go again, Chubby Checker's 1959 "The Twist", or, updated, the Gary-Karie Kool-Aid magic circus. The Supes sure are mysterious, no? Oh, and now John Benoit has been appointed to the South Coast Air Quality Management District's governing board, as well as Vice Chairman of the Supes. Uh, oh, can you say: "you'll never even know it's there?" Remember, Benoit's minion on the Planning Commission is the creepy little John Porras, the one Planner, of five, who voted for Granite.
