Granite Has Options if Project Is Denied Again

The mining company could sue the county or submit new applications for the project.

Even if the County Board of Supervisors denies Liberty Quarry, that may not stop the project.

Granite Construction, the company planning to build a 135-acre mine just south of Temecula, has at least two options, according to the Californian.

It could sue the county, or it could submit an amended application.

If it chose to sue, it would have nearly no chance of winning in court, Ray Johnson, an environmental attorney, told the Californian.

Submitting another application would be expensive, especially considering the mining company dumped more than $10 million into the project already, Gary Johnson, a Granite official, told the newspaper.

The new application would need to be different from the original and include an environmental impact report, which takes time and money to produce.

The company was unsure whether it would do that, Johnson told the newspaper.

The project applications were rejected 4-1 by the Riverside County Planning Commission in August, and the company appealed the decision last month.

Gary hasn't been fired yet....I dont understand, this must be the worst proposed mining location near a large popupation and sacred Pechanga site. I guess their share holders don't mind the wasteful spending. The city of Temecula needs sue them for loss of businesses and property values.

Don't be mis-lead folks, Granite has the money and they're willing to share it with anyone who will vote for their cause.
Let's start wearing our orange again and keep fighting.for our cause.

It's not over yet! The Department of Justice needs to be notified as to what is going on here, to keep an eye out for bribery! As long as Granite Knows the DOJ is watching, no money will change hands and the decision to deny Granite's permit will stand. Blink, and we're in trouble.................I'm for raising money to hire a good attorney, and have him write a letter to Holder.....................

Hey look at what is going on in Lake Elsinore, wonder if money has been changing hands and for how long? You should keep in mind when you go to the polls this November Granite gave Melendez a campaign party, she is all about mining - look out CANYON LAKE (when it's annexed into Lake Elsinore) Wildomar, Menifee, Murietta (she is running for assembly). Anyone is a better choice over Melendez.
