LETTER: Christmas Niceness! (Temecula Police and a Stranger)

The following is a letter to the editor submitted by Murrieta resident Paige Lucas, who unknowingly left her wallet behind in Temecula parking lot.

I just wanted to take a moment to share with you a story that demonstrates what a great community we live in.

In my last minute rushing about to find a particular gift, I stopped at a small strip mall in Temecula. Having quickly found what I needed, I rushed back to work, eager to finish up and get home to Murrieta. Once at home, I was happily in my fuzzy, warm pajamas when there was a knock on the door. Not expecting anyone, I yelled for my sister-in-law to get the door because I was in my “jammies.”

On my door step was a police officer from Temecula. With a warm smile, she said that I had my jammies, but asked where was my wallet was.  And there it was in her hand. Apparently I had dropped it outside the strip mall where it was found by a small boy who gave it to his mother, who then turned it in… with EVERYTHING IN IT!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the presence of mind to get the officer’s name, and she wasn’t sure of the name of the Mother and Son who had turned it in. I’d really like to thank the Mom and the little boy for being so honest and the officer for coming all the way to Murrieta to return it to me.

With so many horrendous things dominating our news and media, it was heartwarming and faith-restoring to know there are still people who strive to do the right thing.
