Wanted Man Arrested in Temecula Standoff

A man wanted on a felony warrant was taken into custody after a brief standoff Tuesday at a Temecula home, according to police.

Officers went to a home in the 39000 block of Creative Drive at around 10 a.m. Tuesday based on a report that the wanted person, Christopher Lyons, 26, was at the location, Temecula police Sgt. Andy Woods said in a news release.

"The reporting party provided a physical description of the suspect and said that he was known to carry an unknown-type hand gun," Woods said.

After confirming Lyons was wanted on the warrant, Woods said officers set up a perimeter around the home.

Those inside the home, including Lyons, became aware of the police presence when a woman walked out the front door and was detained, Woods said.

At this point, Lyons allegedly tried to escape police by running out a rear sliding door, according to Woods.

"When the suspect spotted perimeter officers, he ran back into the residence and barricaded himself inside," Woods said.

Others still inside the home were called out by police, according to the sergeant.

"A short standoff followed with the suspect refusing to comply with commands to exit," Woods said. "A short time later, the suspect realized the opening to the attic where he intended to hide was too small for him to access and he exited the front door."

Lyons was taken into custody without incident, Woods said, and was booked into Southwest Detention Center for the felony warrant.

He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, sheriff's jail records indicated, and was due in court Thursday in Indio.
