Water Park Plan Approved

The plan, which fell apart twice before, aims to put a water park in Temecula.

A water park plan that fell apart twice before was approved by the Planning Commission.

The plan, which was given the green light during a meeting Wednesday at the Civic Center, will put a 19-acre park on Diaz Road and Dendy Parkway, according to city documents.

The plan must still win the City Council's approval before construction begins.

The plan was approved twice in the past, but dried up both times.

The first time, a group of local businessmen won a lawsuit saying it would snarl traffic, hurting their businesses.

The second time, Clearwater Waterpark Development, the company planning the park, failed to build. Representatives gave the bad economy as the reason.

Clearwater is known for running Wild Rivers in Irvine, though

don't forget the rowdy teens from Temecula and Murrieta-I don't really see you going to that side of town to use it anyhow-so just stay home in your castle and you won't see it.

I think it is a wonderful idea. Kids in Temecula will love it in the summertime. There isn't alot of kids to do here locally. The traffic issues will need to be addressed, but it will be a good thing overall for Temecula's economy.

I'm a "rowdy teen" from Temecula. Would you rather me loiter your business or play in some water?

They chose a poor location for this. If they build it I hope it survives and does not become just another vacant eyesore.

Wish we had this years ago when my kids were growing up here. They would've loved this. We would have to drive pretty far for one of these.

I do not know what freeway exit to use that doesn't already have a long line off the freeway on a daily basis. I see more accidents with people trying to cut in front going over 80 mph.

Don't get too excited -- they've talked about this and plans were approved since my son was about 4 -- he's now 17!

How about a soccer complex or a college mini campus? The old John Blanche soccer field was located there and recently closed. Soccer is a big money sport, just go to Birdsall park any time of the week. These guys use these fields for free or almost free. A complex can charge membership fees and be in on the club fees from various soccer clubs in the valley. Temecula United, Hawks, Surf, Matrix. Arsenal, IntraMurrieta just to name a few.
