The award-winning Chaparral High School Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce that its fall production will be the Neil Simon comic fable FOOLS. Opening show dates are 7 PM on Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25. Additional performances are Friday, November 1, at 7 PM, and Saturday, November 2, at 2 PM and 7 PM. All performances are in the school’s Performing Arts Center.

The play tells the story of a young, enthusiastic teacher, Leon Tolchinsky, who enters Kulyenchikov, a Russian village, and finds common sense is not so common – people put dust on items rather than dusting them off and milk cows upside down to get more cream! Leon soon learns that Kulyenchikov is under the influence of a 200-year-old curse, which makes everyone in the village stupid. Leon ambitiously decides that he will be the one to end the evil curse and return the villagers’ intelligence. To break the spell, he must teach the beautiful, young Sophia, which is a daunting task given that her greatest accomplishment to date is learning to sit. To make matters worse, Leon has only 24 hours to educate Sophia. If he fails, he too becomes a fool! Leon soon falls madly in love with Sophia, and his desire to break the spell becomes even more pressing. Will Leon find a way to break the curse, or will he be just another fool in love?

The production stars James Bowen, Sidney Aptaker, Samuel Irvin, Lois Wyman, Grant Reynolds, Avalon Penrose, Madi Burke, Danielle Baumann, Karlie Reynolds, and Rafael Loza.  Featuring, Will Cheek, Jacob Adams, Inaijsa Betts, Alexie Bulmer, Savannah Ghazarian, Julianna Smith, Alicia Scull, Shaye Kavanaugh, Erica Jones, and Cassidy Oswalt.

General admission is $10; all students, military personnel, and seniors 55+ are admitted for $8. Tickets are available at the door and are on sale at the CHS Bookkeeping Office.

CHS is located at the corner of Winchester and Nicolas Roads, 27215 Nicolas Road, Temecula. For ticket information, call (951) 695-4200, extension 144, or for more info on the production email teacher/director Chris Irvin, cirvin@tvusd.k12.ca.us.
