Council Agrees On Rec Center Design

The Temecula City Council, which meets Tuesday, is expected to enter a professional services agreement with architects for the redesign of the Community Recreation Center.

Among items on Tuesday’s City Council meeting agenda is an agreement with an architect firm for the redesign of the Temecula Community Recreation Center.

The city is expected to approve an agreement with Williams Architects Inc. for the renovation designs at a cost of $130,650. Total cost of the project is estimated at $1.5 million and will be paid under the Capital Improvement Program Budget for the fiscal year 2012-2013.

Temecula councilmembers will vote to create a Temecula Community Center Renovation Fund, starting with $183,715 transferred from the Old Town Gymnasium fund, according to the council agenda for May 8.

Originally built in 1994, the community center will undergo a major renovation to bring it up to seismic, energy and ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) codes.

Currently closed to the public, the CRC – located at 30875 Rancho Vista Rd., is expected to re-open this summer.

Other agenda items include an outline of temporary street closures for the 2012 Summerfest Events, which include Western Days, Old Town Temecula Street Painting Festival, Fourth of July parade and fireworks and Hot Summer Nights Concerts in the Park.

The Temecula City Council will meet Tuesday, May 8 at the City Council Chambers – 41000 Main Street, at 7 p.m.
