A crew of all volunteers began work on a 10,000-square-foot auditorium for a local Jehovah's Witness congregation.
Work on the "Double Kingdom Hall" began on Friday at 31640 Calle Girasol and is expected to finish on July 8, according to Scott Zeida, a spokesperson for the congregation.
The auditorium aims to give the 2,000 local Jehovah's Witnesses a place to worship. Seven congregations -- four English speaking and three Spanish speaking -- will use the building at various times, Zeida said.
More than 1,000 people volunteered their labor to build the building, the spokesman said. "All Kingdom Halls are constructed by volunteer work," he wrote in an emailed announcement. "Many are skilled tradesmen who give of their time, energy and resources. However, the majority are unskilled volunteers who receive on-site training in the trades associated with this project."
When the site is finished, church leaders will invite the community to tour the facility, Zeida said.
