Morning showers watered the Temecula area Thursday but the forecast called for it to clear somewhat later in the day, with a high near 66 forecast by the National Weather Service.
The rain should lessen and it should become partially sunny in the afternoon but the reprieve from showers will be brief, as more rain -- and a thunderstorm -- is expected Thursday evening before 11 p.m., the NWS reported.
Cloud to ground lightning could occur throughout the day, with small hail and brief, heavy rain, according to meteorologists.
The temperature Thursday night should hover at 51 degrees.
For Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of rain before 11 a.m. but then it should clear some and become partly sunny, with a high near 71.
The nighttime temperature should be at 50 and it should be partly cloudy Friday, according to the NWS.
Warmer weather is predicted for next week, with daytime temperatures in the 90s beginning Sunday.
