Temecula To Ring In New Year With Annual Grape Drop

The city of Temecula's fifth annual New Year's Eve party will get underway at 4:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Plaza.

An arrangement of grapes from the Temecula Valley Wine Country will be lowered tonight in Old Town to count down the last seconds of 2013 and welcome in the New Year.

More than 1,500 people are expected to turn out for the event, which will include a magic show, face-painting, musical entertainment and other family-friendly fare, according to organizers.

The highlight is the "grape drop." Beginning just before midnight, a cluster of grapes encompassing 12- by 7-feet will be reeled down in a style comparable to the "ball drop" in New York's Times Square. The grapes are timed to reach the ground at exactly 12:00.

Spectators will be invited to count off the final seconds of the year, organizers said. --City News Service
