UPDATE: Water Line Repair Results in Traffic Delays on Temecula Parkway

As crews work to fix a 16-inch reclaimed water line break Wednesday, Rancho California Water District advised there would be only one westbound lane open at La Paz.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30 (News release from the City of Temecula regarding a water main break on Temecula Parkway):

At 8:45 p.m. Oct. 29, the City of Temecula became aware of a Rancho California Water District major waterline break (18” diameter) at the intersection of Temecula Parkway and La Paz Street.

The break caused a major sink hole to develop on the westbound traffic lanes. The waterline break also caused significant damage to the pavement of all westbound traffic lanes that extended several hundred feet on Temecula Parkway east of La Paz.

City staff responded immediately and set up emergency traffic control measures. In addition, RCWD deployed their field crews to begin the repair. The repair work is expected to be completed by Thursday night, Oct. 31.

The City is assisting RCWD with traffic control measures including the deployment of officers from the Temecula Police Department. During the repair work, motorists traveling on Temecula Parkway between Margarita Road and Interstate 15 will experience significant delays.

Traffic on Temecula Parkway near La Paz Road may be slow Wednesday due to repairs being done by Rancho California Water District.

As crews work to fix a 16-inch reclaimed water line break, Rancho California Water District advised there would be only one westbound lane open at La Paz.

Also, the traffic signal at La Paz will be a flashing red light, therefore causing eastbound traffic, according to Meggan Valencia, spokeswoman for RCWD.

"The section that broke has been removed and crews are currently working to install the new section," Valencia said. "Traffic will continue to be down to one lane today and we estimate to have lanes open tomorrow morning."

Valencia noted that because it is a reclaimed line, no residents' water was affected.
