Hot Summer Nights at The Merc begins Friday, the start of a series of music concerts featuring a different genre every time, followed by a brief workshop; Friday also features "Swan Lake," at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

Entrance to the performances are free.

The Merc is a small, intimate space at the Old Town Theater.

The larger space Friday will be devoted to a four-act production of Swan Lake, presented by the Inland Valley Classical Ballet Theater, with dancers from the Inland Valley Classical Ballet Academy.

Friday's performance will be at 7 p.m. and performances will run through the weekend; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for orchestra and parterre and $18 for balcony; children and seniors get $2 off their tickets.

However, if buying tickets on the day of the show, all seating will cost $22 per person.

The ballet was composed by Tchaikovsky and choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov more than 100 years ago and it is a favorite with audiences worldwide.

The phrase "Swan Song," meaning one last performance in one's life or work, has become part of the lexicon.
