Exhibit Set to Open at Winery

Local artist Jami Tobey's signature swirly style will go on display at Lorimar Winery.

Next month, a new wave of paintings by Temecula artist Jami Tobey will be revealed at a public art exhibit at .

The event will also feature the unveiling of the first Lorimar wine label that celebrates Jami’s award-winning paintings. The exhibit will kick off Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the new gallery at Lorimar, 40225 Berenda Road in Wine Country.

Members of the public were invited to meet Tobey during the show and purchase her paintings at a promotional rate.

Tobey says the Lorimar paintings are her boldest to date and represent a more modern approach to her craft. However, collectors of her work will still recognize her trademark swirling clouds and vivid fields of color that awaken like sun on stained glass.

With the opening of the new Lorimar winery, owners seek to create an art gallery in the Temecula Valley that features world-class work. “Jami’s art is infused with bright colors and unexpected surprises,” said Christy Lester, the winery’s co-owner and gallery director. “Talking about her art is so much like describing about wine, and that’s why she’s such a natural match for us.”

Tobey’s work is rooted in her fascination with the natural world. For her, the paintings are free of boundaries, rules or preconceptions. “My work is all about taking what nature comes up with on its own and then putting my own spin on it. These bold colors and crisp shapes reflect my own interpretation, my own celebration of the natural world," the artist said.

Leanne Goebel, a member of the International Association of Art Critics, says Jami’s paintings hearken back to the Art Nouveau style of Gustav Klimt. “What sets Tobey apart is her playful and colorful palette reflecting her roots throughout the American West where one can actually see a red sky with orange, stained glass clouds, purple trees and ochre paths,” Goebel said. “More than contemporary pastiche, Jami Tobey creates painted tapestries of light, color and land."
