Rally Set to Oppose Obama's Birth Control Plan

Pro-life organizations plan to show their opposition to the president's mandate that employers provide insurance plans that include birth control.

 

Obama's plan to force employers to offer insurance plans that include birth control is set to be protested on Friday.

A rally is scheduled for noon at to support "religious freedom," according to the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.

The organizations aim to show their opposition to a mandate from the Department of Health and Human Services advocated by President Barack Obama that would require all employers -- even religiously affiliated organizations -- to offer insurance that includes birth control.

Some organizations consider birth control immoral, and they should not be forced to pay for it, the organizations state.

The department points to the benefits to women's health and finances as reasons for the mandate. "Scientists have abundant evidence that birth control has significant health benefits for women and their families, is documented to significantly reduce health costs, and is the most commonly taken drug in America by young and middle-aged women," said the department's secretary, Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, in an official statement.
