Sierra Club to Focus on Earthquakes

The next meeting will be next Thursday at the Rancho Water District headquarters.

Earthquakes will be the focus of an upcoming meeting of the Sierra Club in Temecula.

The event is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the headquarters at 42135 Winchester Road in Temecula.

The meeting will start with a social mixer, followed at 7 p.m. with the general meeting and keynote speaker, according to Jim Mitchell, a spokesperson for the club.

The speaker is Patrick Abbott, a doctor of geology and a professor at San Diego State University. He is the author of "The Rise and Fall of San Diego" and is working on a television series for the History Channel, Mitchell said in an emailed announcment.

He is set to talk about faults that run through Julian, Temecula, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore, and what to do to prepare for an expected big one.

The club will also spend a few minutes giving an update on Liberty Quarry. To read more about that, .

Pam Nelson, the conservation chair, will also talk about other conservation issues, and club member Bob Audibert will talk about a few upcoming hikes.
