Abbott Cuts 450 Jobs At Its Temecula Plant

Thursday's news means Abbott Vascular has downsized by nearly 1,000 jobs since January 2012.

Abbott Vascular, a large employer in the Temecula Valley, conducted further layoffs Thursday, Patch has confirmed.

The company issued layoff notices to 450 employees at its Temecula plant, "largely as part of previously communicated adjustments," a spokesman for Abbott Vascular said.

"This is a continuation of what we had announced back in January of 2012 in terms of making adjustments to our work force. The specific reasons would be to improve efficiencies and meet the evolving needs of our business," said Spokesman Jonathon Hamilton.

Abbott Laboratories has divisions in pharmaceuticals, medical products and nutritional products. The Temecula location, 41888 Motor Car Parkway, specializes in the company's vascular devices.

In in Temecula. In January 2012, 300 employees were let go.

The 450 positions cut Thursday were all full-time and were primarily in manufacturing and manufacturing support, Hamilton said.

The Temecula plant still employs approximately 2,000 people, he said.

"We plan to continue to maintain operations in Temecula," Hamilton said. "We have great competencies to support new product development and manufacturing of new complex projects."

LOL, One Voice, you Rock!! glad you came into this little repertroire(or however you spell it, too darn tired to look up spelling) and set some things straight.
Shane March 2, 2013 at 11:09 am
Yea Brenda, thats what we need is you holding a handgun while you sleep dreaming of all the terrible things you say about undocumented workers....the poor and the indigent who you resent so much. You believe in God???? Holy Cow.......you have no idea what the Bible says about the poor?? The commands God gaveon how to treat the poor and the rewards you'd get for doing so. Yes God will be the judge in the end and I want to be right behind you listening to him judge you, and the anti-Hispanics posts youve written. God won't judge who crossed a line illegally, he will judge how they were treated.

Are we getting sensitive all the sudden?? I have said time and time again, lets all ride unicorns and sing kumbuya! We can pretend none of this is really happening, but it is.

Linda, when I said Liberals please open your eyes, it was meant for all the liberals who voted for the liar in office. He does nothing about our jobs problem. He thinks that dealing with amnesty and gay marriage trump jobs. I beg to differ. He diverts your attention to those issues because he does not have a handle on the real issues. He would be better off managing a Big Lots store.

Shane my dear,
Honey if you read my posts about illegals in our country I state repeatedly that they need to come here LEGALLY. Not that I dont want them here at all and say shoot them. Why do you turn everything that everyone on here around says so badly? I am not sure if you just like adding or making up these things to get someone riled up, if its for attention or still looking for someone to support your rampages? I dont know, who knows, but most everything you say on here is totally misconstrued from what the person you are attacking has SAID or WROTE. Its like you read in Alien or something. Me saying to our "government, policing agencies" to get illegals out of here is our LAW. Its against the law for anyone to enter this country and be "illegal" and our laws say to send them back. Our procedures and laws to become a citizen are very specific and anyone who comes here needs to follow them so that they work here legally, pay taxes legally, and qualify for any benefits from our aid programs legally. If its against the law to swim in Lake Mathews do you see me swimming in there? NO. Even though its beautiful blue water and tempting as hell. Very simple see? Now if they ever opened it up my ole body would be the first one diving in LEGALLY.

Arthur you are spot on here.
Arthur Spooner 12:07 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2013 Its SO true. Its disgusting and obviously I will never understand that if he did not do one darn thing in 4 years, didnt have to be much, just any ole thing, why in the heck did anyone vote for this man again? Seriously 4 yrs is a very long time especially to just ENFORCE laws that are already in place.
Joseph Kelly March 2, 2013 at 07:25 pm
Arthur/Brenda
Why are you getting on the presidents 2 yard line? Arthur, "who voted for the liar in office", is there any other kind of politician? By default, if you vote it's for the liar, perhaps not the one who is elected, but a liar nonetheless. You utilitze infamous propaganda tactics by avoiding issues and trying to illicit emotional responses. Which is very good for a message board, but doesn't hold water in reality. And Brenda, don't be so mean to Shane, you just disagree. Now you know that you have, let's say, mis-spoken about minorities? Typed some things that you really didn't' mean, as it were? When it's brought up and you tell someone that they are just fabricating what you've said, well, that doesn't really hold water either. What I am saying is that your (plural) water bags are leaking! Now, unlike Shane, if you and Arthur want to play patty cakes, in bed with a .357, that's your own business.
Shane March 2, 2013 at 09:30 pm
Brenda but who's law is greater? If you say you believe in God, then you know the answer to that. Government laws, when violating God's laws should not be observed. To emulate Jesus which is a command, do you think that he would have turned his back on these poor people and not fed them, not housed them, not given them medical care.......it is a commandment. Laws protecting the border are and should be ignored to help the poor.....PERIOD. i certanly don't need your attention, but I see you crying out for others everyday on here. My purpose is to show conservatives the kind of people they really are......if that frustrates them, I DON'T CARE. If you never respond to me......who cares?
Brenda March 2, 2013 at 11:39 pm
Joseph,
Patty cakes was my way of trying to lighten things up a bit Joseph, just my way. As far as Shane yes, I have finally made a post or two directly to him because he cannot post one single fact filled post for everyone to read and take in. Shane takes someones post and rewrites it, in anger, not answering the question posted, and lashes out. Creating a falseness to defame the other commentor as he did to me. He has called each of us names, or us all in general, or this chair that name, in every single comment etc. I replied to him on two of his posts and the names he calls everyone, and it has nothing to do with bags leaking, its trying to get Shane to realize he would get a better mature informative response in return IF HE GAVE ONE. Without all the demeaning name calling which he comes onto new articles slinging. But of course its like talking to a steroid hyped up fighter to stop fighting.
One Voice March 3, 2013 at 12:05 am
Shane your take on undocumented workers is laughable, poor and indigent??? These poor and indigent people work as tree trimmers, gardners, roofers, framers, concrete layers and a bunch of other jobs. These poor and indigent workers do not pay taxes, ss, or medicare, they work for cash under phoney SS numbers and generally send their money back to family in another country which contributes nothing to our own Country. They are buying houses, driving new cars, and flooding our emergency rooms to the point of exhaustion. I welcome you to visit Lake Elsinore early in the morning and see for yourself what the poor indigent are doing, the Women don't work, they are out for their morning walk with two little ones in tow and usually pregnant. You are such a bleeding heart for just the opposite of what other Americans want and see, I have to think that you do this just to antagonize other posters, you can't really be that blind to reality, can you? As Brenda said we as American Citizens live within the laws created for us, if you are here illegally then it is up to the Government to enforce the law, just like they did to you and just like they would do to me. If you break the law do you think you or I will go without punishment? You know the answer to that.
Joseph Kelly March 3, 2013 at 12:14 am
Brenda
I understand that you were just having fun Brenda. Furthermore, I appreciate that about you. But really, you get more upset about your differences than may be neccesary? You have a kind heart, why not extend that kindness a bit more? There are many disadvantaged people in this world. And yes they do tax the advantage of others. Does that mean that they should just make themselves scarce and die? Or do we still need to converse about the "surplus population" that Ebenezer Scrooge referenced back in the day? Charity and kindness are not qualities that are over abundant or over taxed. Businesses can still be profitable while the disadvantaged are helped along. The whole point of this blog is about 1000 or so employees that were given their pink slips, whilst Abbott Vascular was making record profits (bank) as we call it. Is patriotism a reality, or a convenient part of the vernacular? Part of being a patriot, in my thinking, is not doing things that would harm your county. Too many businesses are doing just that. Avarice and greed as a guiding principle. It is wrong to begrudge Abbott for making a profit. They employ many Americans and that is a great thing. But relocating to increase your profits, in the name of being a Gobal citizen, is horseshite under any circumstance. Perhaps I'm just jealous of you and Arthor's special relationship. Say hi to the daughters and enjoy a little Bon Jovi

Joseph, I blame the voters who voted for Obama his first term. The second term was all a big scam and full of voter fraud. The first term was a bunch of feel gooders who thought it would be cool to have our first black president. Never once looking at the big picture to see if he was even capable of the job. He isn't. Never has been. He couldnt run a Taco shop let alone a country. The first term voters caused this damage. It will take decades to fix Obamas damage. HIs very presence is what has hurt the economy. The second he took office, business owners knew it was not going to be good, they started trimming the fat, therefore less jobs, therefore less spenders, created again less jobs. Its a big ugly cycle. I blame Obama voters. He brought too much fear into America and took us down. I am not saying McCain would have been a great President, but he would have brought in less worry and a little more security. So how about this.......all of the Obama voters pay for his damage and the rest of us sit and watch? Oh wait, you are not the working class anyway, how will you do that? Time to take away your EBT!

You make quality points, but lack substantive proof for some assertions. "the second term was all a big scam and voter fraud"? Do you know this for a fact, or is this your opinion? Are you sure there are less jobs since President Obama took office? Or is that your opinion? I will say that I watched Meet The Press today and was very disappointed in the sales pitch advanced by President Obama's Economic Council Director, Sperling, same tool, just from a different adminstration. That's what frustrates me, absolutely no one who can be believed in public service. One final point, it's arguable that John McCain has the mental acuity to perform the office of President, but it's beyond any doubt that his selection of Sarah Palin cast a very dark clould over his decision making! The Republican candidate, in this case, really undermined any chance he may have had. Choosing Sarah Palin was just a horrible decision, I'm sure one that he regrets to this day. And if there is any honesty in dialogue, probably one that Republicans regret to this day?

Joseph,
Most underestimate me except those who know me. At my age I've done alot, seen alot, schooled alot, worked alot, experienced alot and at some point its too much and its time to relax, enjoy the grandkids, have a nice cup of java :) Try to forget a illness that ravages my body, keep focused on my happiness, my familes. Joseph, I AGREE with you on Abbott and companies like them. INcluding the ones who have dwindled out to other countries and most people don't even notice. IE Reynolds Aluminum years ago in Mexico. Hilton Call Centers in the past 5 years, and on and on. We contribute to agencies who help others, single/young mothers, abuse victims, shelters, women to work, food banks, clothing, whatever is needed in our home town here. Also to many agencies that do work in Mexico, South America, with building homes, churches, schools, clothing, food, water sytems, medical supplies, doctors and nurses without borders. My husband serving in the military, many we know are involved in alot of construction. Our doctor used to fly down materials and the men. We donate to different medical/disease/hospital research/children especially ones that affect our family in some way. I am happy with myself, my daughters, family for anything we can give. If half of these companies we all support by buying their products, or staying in their hotels gave to these agencies it would make a HUGE difference. But instead they take their money and run. :/
Joseph Kelly March 3, 2013 at 08:56 pm
Arthur I checked the employment/unemployment statistics and your are 100% correct. Unemployment peaked in September of 2009. The worst of the number was that of those who became unemployed (beginning with the Lehman Brothers debacle in 2007) 60% of those earned between $14.00 and $21.00 per hour. 58% of the people who have re-entered the workplace since the spike, earn less than $14.00 per hours. In the past 30 years or so the middle class has actually shrunk by 10% and that might not factor in numbers since 2007.
Joseph Kelly March 3, 2013 at 09:03 pm
I know that Reynolds was very big in Jamaica, due to their bauxite production. You are living the dream Brenda, I wish nothing but the best for you, your husband and your entire family. I read something kind of interesting that occured recently in Switzerland (the only country that has greater income disparity than the U.S., at least that I'm aware of). They were preparing a 'golden parachute' delio for some exec. and the population got hold of it, causing the company to re-evalutate their policy. It's good because they named 3/5 top earners as Americans. Perhaps behaviors globally will change because of these type of reproofs? Have a great night.

Art said "The first term was a bunch of feel gooders who thought it would be cool to have our first black president."
Art we had a choice between a man we think can do the best for us as a nation, Art said "The second term was all a big scam and full of voter fraud" Art please give example of voter fraud that would lead to an electoral landslide victory???? Brenda, I hate no one, I am not angy at anyone. I hate the ideology of conservatism. Brenda why don't you call out the attacks on me?? Both Carl and Joseph have identified hate filled name calling, and lies. Brenda if I attack, complain or prove your post wrong, why do you consider that an attack. Arthur thinks its a war on women, but I don't distinghish the difference when we are arguing a topic. Lastly I am terribly sorry you are fighting life's fight. I ONLY WISH YOU WELL. But try and realize you may not be alone fighting a disease. Try to understand that people with disabilities, addictions, lack of education, the poor, are hurting just as bad as you, maybe in different ways. People who are hungry and poor risk their lives to cross the border. ,Most are not criminals. Most are hungry, poorly clothed, no roof over their heads. To label them with hate is wrong especially if you are a believer. Put yourself in their situation. If your family had no food, would you do everything, including cross a line in the sand to get them food and medicine??

All comes down to getting the "GOLD" Balanced right in the big City Hall right? We areRead More broke we are broke! We have how many more million dollar residents, ranches, farms who pay taxes, how many more business's, triple, quadruple, on and on that pay taxes, and some very large business's at that for YEARS. Yet Murietta and Menifee with just the few they have can manage to not only put in side walks, AND ALSO ACTULLY Listen their residents, instead of call them names like Paul has been, concerns and respond to them. Hell we are just now getting some attention to our driving issues with running red lights, speeding, not stopping at stop signs, driving drunk, high, or wreeklessly causing deaths and serious injuries to walkers, bike riders, skate board, scooter riders, wheelchairs, motor bike riders, and other cars. But how many lives were lost or severly disabled until we just now the last 2 weeks have been giving traffic details for different areas, cell phone details, etc. Lucky to get some sidewalks finished in 10 years if someone doesnt figure out where our "Gold" is we all pay in. And stop calling names people at the City meetings to Paul or anyone else trying to get our City to do what its there for. By the time someone in your own family is killed they will be laughing at you for standing up asking for sidewalks right? Just like on the "Patch" comment areas, always calling names instead of sticking with your fellow Temeculites and getting us something DONE! Before we loose more lives
