A company planning a mine just outside Temecula’s boundary was named one of the world’s most ethical companies.

Granite Construction Incorporated won the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” award from the Ethisphere Institute, a self-described business ethics “think tank.”

“Granite places a strong value on corporate responsibility.  Being named to Ethisphere’s 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies list is a testament to the solid foundation we have in place,” said James H. Roberts, the company’s president and CEO.

Granite build a good reputation around its brand, said Alex Brigham, executive director of Ethisphere. “Granite recognizes the important role that principled practices play in brand reputation, which untimately is the most valuable asset for a corporation,” he said in a press statement.

Ethisphere chooses the award winners by reviewing their codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories, considering the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices, looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers, according to the press statement.
