Great Sushi Place for Kids

Sushi Boat is at the mall, so the crowds are always coming and going.

Sushi restaurants are not known for accommodating kids too well. So, for sushi lovers with children, is a must-try.

It has an area for kids partially walled off from the rest of the dining room. A small plasma screen hangs on the wall playing children’s movies and a tiny bookcase holds various toys. A table sits in the middle, so parents can eat while the children play.

The wall helps parents keep track of the kids and the television and toys help keep the children happy. Also, the kids menu offers a mix of cooked California rolls and other kid-friendly items, such as chicken nuggets and french fries.

Even if you don’t have kids, the restaurant is great. It sits in the Promenade mall facing the courtyard in front of the movie theater, so it's always buzzing.

In front of the restaurant, a fountain shoots streams of water in an arch over a walkway, which kids love to run under.

The interior décor is beautiful. All the furniture and fixtures are dark wood and hangings with Japanese calligraphy adorn the walls. One big projection television hangs over the dining room, which has 20 tables and 13 bar seats.

The place is reasonably priced. A binto box was $8.95. The box had five compartments, one with rice, another with fruit and the others with your choice of sushimi, California rolls, sushi, tempura or stir-fry.

The binto box is a good way to get a variety of items, but don’t pass up getting a roll. Most of them are around $10.

The Charger Roll, for example, is excellent. It costs $9.20 and is made of raw albacore with sliced jalepeno and scallions.

The Christmas Roll was one of the prettier items. Costing $8.95, it's made of raw tuna and cucumber rolled and topped with spicy wakame – fish eggs, for non-Japanese speakers.

There's no sushi place in town that's this good and makes bringing children this easy.
