Popular Murrieta Sub Shop Opens Temecula Location

A local favorite in Murrieta since 2004, Benny's Place expands to include a location in Temecula.

The Temecula crowd can now weigh in on whether the sandwiches at Benny’s Place are “The Best Subs in Town.”

Benny and Corinne Vargas, owners of Benny’s Place in Murrieta, have opened their second location in the Palomar Village shopping center on Rancho California Road in Temecula.

The couple launched their very first sandwich shop in Murrieta in 2004, where locals can often expect to be greeted by Benny, Corinne or their son, Benny Jr.

“We are unique because we are family-owned and operated but we still have that clean franchise look,” Corinne said.

Though times got tough at their Murrieta location when the recession hit, Corinne said they never compromised on their product.

“We might have cut the hours, but we did not change a thing. That is one thing we won't do,” she said.

During a friends and family night held Wednesday as a soft opening for the Temecula location, the couple said they will be using their Murrieta employees—including themselves—to ensure the food is prepared at the same level it has been for years.

The Benny’s Place menu includes soups, salads and sandwiches made with fresh breads, vegetables, meats and cheeses—all carefully selected by the owners. Catering is also offered.

As of Friday, Jan. 25, Benny’s Place is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at 30590 Rancho California Road, Suite 302, in Temecula (near Albertsons).

Operating hours may fluctuate during their first few months until they gauge which hours they are busiest, according to Benny.

I have owned 4 small businesses over my years and I know how hard it is to make them succeed. I am pulling for Bennys. Matter of fact, I took my family there the other night and arrived at 5:35pm on a Sunday - THEY WERE CLOSED! What restaurant in Temecula closes at 5:30? An there weekday schedule is just as bad. So we took our business elsewhere, Subway. I understand having to manage your hours of operation to ensure it makes sense to your bottom line. However, in the service industry you have to be available at normal hours 7 days a week, its part of the business. If I cant come eat during normal hours of most restaurants, I will not be coming to yours. By the way, you took over a location that was very controversial in regards to small business. The coffee shop that was there before got screwed by the very land lord you are giving money to. I am sure you are aware of that, right? So I am not supporting your company and I will ask my friends, employees and colleagues to stay away as well. Hopefully we will have an impact here in our local community. Albeit probably not necessary because of the horrible location you choose for a sandwich shop and the odd hours you carry, you will probably doom yourself.

Wow, you start off by saying that you are pulling for Benny's and finish by saying you will try to drive them out of business. I have been a Benny's Murrieta customer since it opened eight years ago. The food quality is superb, and the business is run by a local family who is a pleasure to do business with. Shame on you.

What an odd and contradictory comment, Mr. Mueller! A big part of the charm of going to family-owned restaurants is that they're small-time. They're not open 24/7. They don't have a drive-through. Their employees are treated well and, in turn, treat their customers well. If you feel compelled to gripe about a small sandwich shop being closed at 5:30 on a Sunday -- in wintertime, no less -- then by all means, go to a chain restaurant!! I went to Benny's Temecula just the other day. I was greeted by friendly employees. I got great service and fresh food in an immaculately clean setting. I ate on the patio under the sun and watched the passersby. It was a very pleasant experience, and I'll definitely be back!
