Temecula Indie Weather Service Gains Seasoned Meteorologist

WeatherCurrents will soon have a seasoned meterologist on the roster.

Temecula resident and meteorologist Jim Purpura is going to join the local independant weather information service WeatherCurrents.

Purpura retired from the National Weather Service after a thirty year career earlier this year.

Since 2003, he served as Meteorologist–in-Charge at the San Diego Weather Forecast Office which issues warnings and forecasts for San Diego, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

“I’m excited about bringing my experience working in National Weather Service offices across the U.S. to a new level,” Purpura said.

“I’ll be working with the WeatherCurrents team to help provide live weather information to your Southern California neighborhood, with specific focus on high impact weather events,” he added.

He has received numerous Department of Commerce awards during his long career, including a gold medal for life-saving forecasts and warnings issued during the massive rains in January of 2005.

WeatherCurrents’ founder John Toman is thrilled at the newest edition.

“Iʼm ecstatic and humbled that Jim Purpura is bringing his unique skills and experience to WeatherCurrents. He will help enhance the local weather service we provide to the community,” Toman said.

Purpura has appeared on many network and cable television programs.

WeatherCurrents serves fifteen communities in Southern Californiaʼs inland valleys, including locations in Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.

It works informally with the National Weather Service to compliment the government-run operation's coverage of the Temecula area, Purpura said during a recent City Council meeting.
