Vegan Heaven

If you're a lactose-intolerant vegan who's allergic to gluten, Pizza Fusion is your place.

Pizza Fusion accommodates every dietary need imaginable. They serve wheat-free crust, lots of vegetarian options – even plenty of vegan options – and choices for lactose-intolerant people.

The drawback is the food is expensive. A wheat-free “Very Vegan” pizza was $21, which includes eight pieces.

The price is worth it. The place sits on Winchester Road at Nicolas Road in the same parking lot as Pep Boys and Trader Joes a few doors down from Starbucks. It has five seats at the bar and eight tables.

The pizza’s served on a wooden board on a stand on the table, which is interesting. The furniture is dark wood; the walls are painted deep, rich colors and bear photos of vaguely environmental-themed images, such as trees, sprouting plants and piles of veggies. It resembles Spouts Natural Market.

Unlike Sprouts, indie rock is playing lightly in the background. Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Led Zepplin and Manchester Orchestra, for example, filled the room during a visit this week. It gives the feeling you’re eating in an independent record store.

Adding to the feel is the server, with his sleeve tattoos, long hair and beard. He was friendly – but not saccharine-sweet, which was refreshing – and very attentive.

The wheat-free cookies were excellent – piping hot and gooey. The pizza was good if you like thin, stiff crust. If you like Dominoes-style thick, floppy crust soaked in grease, you won’t get that here.

If you have a kid, come by on Tuesday. Children eat free that day. If you’re a vegan or have some almost-impossible-to-accommodate dietary restriction, this is the best – and only – pizza place in town for you.
