Exchange we can't believe in!

One of the busiest days of the year for retailers is December 26th, the day after Christmas. That's the day people who are unhappy with their presents head for the stores to exchange ill-fitting, ugly, impractical items for stuff that fits better, works better for them and might even have a lower cost. Knowing that so many people will be coming to their stores, retailers offer sales and deals in hopes of finishing the year strongly.

Exchangers reap the benefits of the retailers' markdowns which results in a win/win for retailers and exchangers alike.  Isn't that exactly what an efficient exchange is supposed to accomplish -- at least in a capitalistic system like the United States government once promoted and defended?
