Brief Scare at Temecula Theater When Smoke Detected

Possible smoke coming from a popcorn popper triggered projectors at busy Edwards Temecula to shut down momentarily Sunday, the company confirmed.

Temecula moviegoers were likely taken by surprise Sunday afternoon when screens suddenly went blank.

According to Regal Cinemas, which operates Edwards Temecula Stadium 15 & IMAX at Promenade Temecula, this occurred when smoke was detected by a sensor in a popcorn popper exhaust.

"The equipment responded properly triggering the projectors to stop briefly," Russ Nunley, vice president of marketing and communications for Regal Entertainment Group, told Patch.

Though there were reports audience members may have been evacuated from the busy theater at about 1 p.m., Nunley said that was not the case.

"There were no evacuations," Nunley said. "After a manager confirmed no fire, they restarted in a few minutes and no fire crew was dispatched."
