DUI Checkpoint in Temecula Nets 1 Suspect

Four other drivers were ticketed and given court dates for alleged licensing violations, according to sheriff's officials.

Sheriff's deputies staffing a checkpoint in northeastern Temecula arrested one motorist suspected of driving while impaired and cited four others for alleged license violations, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

The checkpoint was staffed on Winchester Road, at Nicolas Road, near Chaparral High School, according to Riverside County sheriff's John Magnan.

It was in operation from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies screened 1,544 vehicles, sending 72 vehicles to a spot for closer inspection, the sergeant said.

Seven field sobriety tests were administered and 10 vehicles were towed, the sergeant said.

A total of 2,307 vehicles passed through the checkpoint overnight, the sergeant said.

I like it but how about a checkpoint outside of old town then you would nabb a lot more.

What could roving patrols in Old Town not do that would be any different than a roadblock that seizes all without suspicion of wrongdoing? The roadblock did not remain until 3 a.m. they packed up around 2 a.m. Deputies were a little short on follow through.

How about a checkpoint on Rancho California Road at Butterfield Stage? I am sure Jeff Stone and the rest of the Council Cronies will never allow that location to adversely affect the massive Winery Drunk Driving problem Temecula currently has.

Why not set up in old town, both ends.

Mr. Temecula....."massive" drunk driving problem in winery areas? Really? Accuracy should be a part of all of our posts. Any drunk should be taken off the road I totally agree but over the top assumptions like yours do not help

I'd like to see almost all DUI enforcement done by roving patrol.
