Fund Established for Children of Chaparral Teacher Who Died Unexpectedly

The Thomas Children College Education Fund has been established so that Darren's children may continue to pursue higher education in honor of their father, who taught at Chaparral High School in Temecula.

News release from the Temecula Valley Unified School District:

Temecula, CA – Wednesday, June 26, 2013–
A memorial fund has been established for the three children of former Chaparral High School history teacher, Darren Thomas who passed away unexpectedly during a bike ride on June 23. Darren, age 52, is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Crista and sons Matthew and Kyle. Carolyn Thomas teaches 3rd grade at Rancho Elementary School.

The Thomas Children College Education Fund has been established so that Darren’s children may continue to pursue higher education in honor of their father. Darren’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made on: www.youcaring.com/darren.thomas.memorialfund

A remembrance vigil will take place on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. on the field of Chaparral High School’s stadium. The community is welcome to attend. Attendees are asked to bring a blanket or chair to sit on, along with a candle.

The vigil will be a celebration of Darren’s life. Students, former students and colleagues will have the opportunity to share their memories of Darren. 

On Saturday, July 6 at 1 p.m., there will be a memorial service at Chaparral High School inside the gym.
