Magnitude 3.1 Quake Rattles Temecula

The epicenter's in Hemet, and it followed a smaller tremor that struck only hours earlier in Homeland.

A 3.1 magnitude quake shook Temecula and the surrounding region today.

It struck at 5:03 a.m. with its epicenter under a hill circled by Park Avenue north of Florida Avenue in Hemet, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The map shows residents of Murrieta and Temecula reported experiencing weak to light tremors.

A smaller earthquake struck less than a day earlier nearby.

A magnitude 1.2 tremor hit at 4:30 p.m. Thursday with its epicenter near Alcante Drive and Juniper Flats Road just north of Highway 79 in Homeland.
