One-Woman Play Commemorates Black History Month

The Temecula Valley Museum will celebrate with a performance.

The Temecula Valley Museum plans to kick off Black History Month with a one-woman performance.

Local author and actress E.P. McKnight created the show, called “With Grace I Stand,” to debut at the museum.

The show portrays the lives of seven black women who impacted American history, said Wendell Ott, the museum’s manager.

In the performance, McKnight will portray Shirley Chisholm, the first black person in a major party to run for president, and Bessie Coleman, a barnstormer and daredevil who was the first black female pilot in the country, among others.

McKnight is a professional actress who appeared on stage, television and movies. She she wrote two one-woman plays and three books, Ott said.

The show will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Temecula Valley Museum, 28314 Mercedes Street in Old Town. Tickets cost $5, and organizers recommended reserving a space by calling 951-694-6450.
