Occupy Temecula Plans a Potluck

The public was invited to a potluck organized by Occupy Temecula demonstrators.

The lunch is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday at the on Rancho California and Ynez roads, according to Violet Lorien, one of the organizers.

A general assembly will follow at 3 p.m., and then demonstrators will march to the in Old Town at 4 p.m., she said.

The potluck aims to bring new members into the movement. "Ever since the second Saturday we were out there when we had a relatively huge surge in people…we've stayed relatively constant at no more than 30 people every weekend," she said. "We are getting to the point where bringing in new bodies has to be our primary focus if we want to be successful locally."

The demonstrators gathered at the Duck Pond during the last four Saturdays to protest the disparity between the rich and poor in this country.

They also met last week to support Bank Transfer Day. To read about the last demonstration,

Lorien hopes the potluck will be more welcoming to new members than their usual sign-waving and marching demonstrations, she said.

"This is an opportunity for the community to come out and meet us and find out who we are and why we are out there," Lorien said.
