Property Taxes Due Monday

Usually the due date is April 10, but since it's a Sunday, the deadline's pushed back to Monday.

Temecula residents have until 5 p.m. Monday to pay their property taxes, or face penalties.

Usually April 10 is the due date, but since that falls on a Sunday this year, the deadline was pushed back, according to the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office.

Anybody late on the second installment will pay a 10 percent penalty plus a $31 administrative fee, said Melissa Johnson, the chief deputy of the office.

The county's property tax receipts plummeted about 15 percent during the last two years as property tax rolls declined, cutting deeply into local government revenues, according to the treasurer-tax collector’s office.

The first installment of property taxes was due in December. Last fall, the office sent 903,597 tax bills, though how many were paid so far was unclear, according to the office.
