An earthquake with an estimated 3.3 magnitude struck on the Riverside-San Bernardino line northeast of Riverside Sunday morning.
The quake was felt at 6:26 a.m. in Riverside, Temecula and Hemet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Automated seismographs and computers estimated the epicenter to be about 11 miles beneath the earth’s surface, but the raw data has not been reviewed by scientists.

I've been experimenting with baking with dehydrated milk. It works just fine. My next step is to try dehydrated eggs. (My ultimate goal is to buy an Easy Bake Oven that I power with a portable solar power kit... so I can mix my dehydrated eggs and milk with a little water, flour, and salt to make popovers.) ;) Seriously, I love popovers. And coffee... I need to have enough solar power to brew my coffee. I haven't had Spam in years... not since my days camping as a Boy Scout. But, if you need protein, its tolerable!
I have a dehydrator that works well, but I have not tried to dehydrate eggs or milk yet. I have dehydrated lots of fruit, which I love to eat. The o2 absorbers are little packets that you throw on top of the food before you seal the mylar bag.
I have a dehydrator that I use for fruits. (Bananas, mostly.) But I was referring to commercially produced dehydrated eggs and milk. I buy the milk at Stater Bros. But I've been thinking about buying the eggs online (since I can't find it at Stater's): http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/powderedwholeeggscan.aspx Thanks for the info on the o2 absorbers. I've never heard of them.
The other morning, I awoke especially early (4:00am... for some unknown reason). I couldn't fall back asleep, so I groggily wandered downstairs to my computer to see whom I might argue with on the Patch... just to pass the time. :) But as I got to the bottom of the stairs, I was startled wide awake by the frighteningly loud howls and yips of a coyote. (It was so loud, I momentarily thought he was in my home!) But as I gained full consciousness, I realized the howling was coming from my front yard. I peeked between the blinds to see a large (looked like a German Shepard) coyote standing in the middle of teh street, fully erect, nose pointed skyward, howling and yipping into the cold, night air! Within 20 seconds, he was joined by four more, equally large coyotes! The pack then proceeded to trot down my street out of my view. That unnerving experience made me wonder... will I need to protect myself from wandering (non-human) carnivores?
When the next major quake shakes out San Onofre, it will be impossible for people in San Diego, Orange or Riverside counties to evacuate. unless they live right on the coast and head out to sea. And we should not feel safe because the reactors are "shut down." Fukushima reactor #4 was shut down when that disaster happened. You can google Fukushima reactor #4 to see what happened and continues to happen today at #4.
President Obama this week will embrace a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence that will call for major legislation to expand background checks for gun purchases and lay out 19 separate actions the president could take by invoking the power of his office, lawmakers who were briefed on the plan said Monday. Actions the president could take on his own are likely to include imposing new limits on guns imported from overseas, compelling federal agencies to improve sharing of mental health records and directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct research on gun violence, according to those briefed on the effort. White House aides believe Mr. Obama can also ratchet up enforcement of existing laws, including tougher prosecution of people who lie on their background checks. But given the difficulty of pushing new rules through a bitterly divided Congress, Mr. Obama will also promise to act on his own to reduce gun violence wherever possible. Executive Orders to ban assault rifles, extended clips and limit ammunition sales.....LOL!!! He's gonna get your guns....LOL!!! UN troops will take them from you. LOL!!
REPLY: I've seen Mountain Lions, Bob Cats, Coyotes and a mule deer once. My scariest encounter was a Coyote that came within several feet of me and look right at me before deciding to continue on. I worry more about the two legged animals than the wild ones although when I get up at 3:00 A.M. although it's a creepy feeling knowing I'm being watched by wildlife making a decision about their potential next meal. This last rabbit infestation because of the rains really brought the wildlife around.
The other thing that's a bit unnerving about these sightings is that the animals aren't timid nor skittish. They brazenly walk or slowly trot down the street. They have no fear.
