It's called authoritarianism, the guy is a power hungry billionaire control freak.
One Voice January 14, 2013 at 10:44 pm
I bought the buckets and tirre contents at Costco, $85.00 30 day supply three meals a day for one person with a shelf life of 20 years, they are called Chef's Banquet Food Storage, I am not creative like you guys, I wish I was, so I took the easy way out. Also if you go to Burger King or Carls sometime you can buy their 5 gallon pickle buckets with lids really cheap.
One Voice January 14, 2013 at 10:45 pm
Shut up Shane
LBV Collins January 14, 2013 at 10:45 pm
Thanks for the info, Jill. I'm not sure what you mean by an "oxygen absorber." Are you referring to a vacuum sealer, or some type of product that you put inside the bag before you seal it?
I've been experimenting with baking with dehydrated milk. It works just fine. My next step is to try dehydrated eggs. (My ultimate goal is to buy an Easy Bake Oven that I power with a portable solar power kit... so I can mix my dehydrated eggs and milk with a little water, flour, and salt to make popovers.) ;) Seriously, I love popovers. And coffee... I need to have enough solar power to brew my coffee. I haven't had Spam in years... not since my days camping as a Boy Scout. But, if you need protein, its tolerable!
jill smith January 14, 2013 at 10:47 pm
A solar generator is the best and much cheaper to make.
One Voice January 14, 2013 at 10:48 pm
No he needs to get into drug re-hap........
LBV Collins January 14, 2013 at 10:55 pm
Thanks for the info, One Voice. I shop at the Temecula Costco, but I've never seen these kits. Do you remember where they are located?
Roberto January 14, 2013 at 10:57 pm
I have a 1st aid kit (several of them) probably need to get down to Costco and add to my food supply. This along with a large arsenal is essential to survival in my opinion.
One Voice January 14, 2013 at 11:02 pm
LBV you are welcome, I actually ordered them on line, check it out they have a huge variety available, I choose the ones that I did because it had a variety but they do have those with just veggies or fruits, very interesting. When you go to Costco website just type emergency food kits in their search engine...
jill smith January 14, 2013 at 11:04 pm
That sounds interesting LBV, but when I think of an easy bake oven, I think of a toy, you must mean something else, sounds interesting.
I have a dehydrator that works well, but I have not tried to dehydrate eggs or milk yet. I have dehydrated lots of fruit, which I love to eat. The o2 absorbers are little packets that you throw on top of the food before you seal the mylar bag.
LBV Collins January 14, 2013 at 11:05 pm
Thanks for the tip, One Voice! I'll check it out.
jill smith January 14, 2013 at 11:15 pm
Shane it is not about the end of the world, and all the other nonsensical ramblings you display here. It is about being self sufficient and sensible in your every day life.
LBV Collins January 14, 2013 at 11:19 pm
LOL! Hi Jill.. Actually, I *was* referring to the Easy Bake Oven toy. (My sister had one when we were kids.) I was being humorous... but kind of serious, too. The portable solar camping kits don't generate very much power. (100 watts, I think?) And if I remember, the Easy Bake Oven doesn't use a lot of power. (A 100 watt light bulb?) So I was speculating that I could use a solar kit to power an Easy Bake Oven to cook foods. (I have no idea if this would work though.)
I have a dehydrator that I use for fruits. (Bananas, mostly.) But I was referring to commercially produced dehydrated eggs and milk. I buy the milk at Stater Bros. But I've been thinking about buying the eggs online (since I can't find it at Stater's): http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/powderedwholeeggscan.aspx Thanks for the info on the o2 absorbers. I've never heard of them.
One Voice January 14, 2013 at 11:30 pm
I agree Roberto!!! I think that we have ourselves covered but I do need that first aid kit I bet I can order one from Costco, I will check it out.
LBV Collins January 14, 2013 at 11:54 pm
Hi Roberto. Regarding having a large arsenal (which I certainly don't disagree with), I've been pondering just what it is I may face during a disaster that would require me to protect myself and my family. Certainly other people...those who weren't as well prepared and are now starving. But I've been wondering what the local fauna may do during such a catastrophe.
The other morning, I awoke especially early (4:00am... for some unknown reason). I couldn't fall back asleep, so I groggily wandered downstairs to my computer to see whom I might argue with on the Patch... just to pass the time. :) But as I got to the bottom of the stairs, I was startled wide awake by the frighteningly loud howls and yips of a coyote. (It was so loud, I momentarily thought he was in my home!) But as I gained full consciousness, I realized the howling was coming from my front yard. I peeked between the blinds to see a large (looked like a German Shepard) coyote standing in the middle of teh street, fully erect, nose pointed skyward, howling and yipping into the cold, night air! Within 20 seconds, he was joined by four more, equally large coyotes! The pack then proceeded to trot down my street out of my view. That unnerving experience made me wonder... will I need to protect myself from wandering (non-human) carnivores?
Michael January 15, 2013 at 12:32 am
Just to clear this up. There are two Michaels on the patch. I'm not the one who commented above. And that earthquake is pointless. Theirs so many in California what's the point. I have the earthquake app on my iPod and I can tell you there's probably about 5 earhtquakes a day in Anza. It's no big deal. Yes, be prepared. Get worked up over a 3.3 magnitude earthquake, NO.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 01:00 am
LOL!!!! Bomb Shelters, you all need bomb shelters with towers to shoot down zombies raiding your neighborhood. LOL!! Cowards need arsenals. Just think someone living here in thee Inland Empire would never have needed a weapon to protect themselves because their home was destroyed in an earthquake.......LOOK OUT Roberto and One Voice, maybe a tornado is coming. You need at least 4 AK47's for that disaster, oh wait.....here comes a Tidal Wave that is coming through the Temecula pass from San Diego, better get scuba equipment and spear guns...cowards and fear mongerers.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 01:02 am
Michael it's because they have to find some logical reasoning to own assault rifles, so they can ease their minds. But they will eventually be banned.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 01:07 am
Jull then your husband has to be the type that loves to correct the ridicules statements his wife makes in public. If you want to read some go to Jull's past comments leading back to before the Presidential election and some proved incredibly stupid and WRONG comments she made. You are an embarrassment Jull.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 01:09 am
Wait a second, he could be a manager at the McDolalds or the manager of the San Diego Padres or the manager at KMart. There are a lot of people with Masters Degrees out there with no job.
David B Secor January 15, 2013 at 01:13 am
When the "Big One" hits the San Onofre Nuclear plant, it will imitate Fukushima (it's only been "upgraded" to withstand a 7.0 quake). This, plus the fact it already has the worst safety record of any nuclear plant in the nation, means we'll have bigger problems than not having candles or enough assault weapons - such as you ain't goin' nowhere.
When the next major quake shakes out San Onofre, it will be impossible for people in San Diego, Orange or Riverside counties to evacuate. unless they live right on the coast and head out to sea. And we should not feel safe because the reactors are "shut down." Fukushima reactor #4 was shut down when that disaster happened. You can google Fukushima reactor #4 to see what happened and continues to happen today at #4.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 01:14 am
Now we know there are hundred's of earthquakes every week here........lets talk about those arsenals you say your gonna get.
President Obama this week will embrace a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence that will call for major legislation to expand background checks for gun purchases and lay out 19 separate actions the president could take by invoking the power of his office, lawmakers who were briefed on the plan said Monday. Actions the president could take on his own are likely to include imposing new limits on guns imported from overseas, compelling federal agencies to improve sharing of mental health records and directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct research on gun violence, according to those briefed on the effort. White House aides believe Mr. Obama can also ratchet up enforcement of existing laws, including tougher prosecution of people who lie on their background checks. But given the difficulty of pushing new rules through a bitterly divided Congress, Mr. Obama will also promise to act on his own to reduce gun violence wherever possible. Executive Orders to ban assault rifles, extended clips and limit ammunition sales.....LOL!!! He's gonna get your guns....LOL!!! UN troops will take them from you. LOL!!

REPLY: I've seen Mountain Lions, Bob Cats, Coyotes and a mule deer once. My scariest encounter was a Coyote that came within several feet of me and look right at me before deciding to continue on. I worry more about the two legged animals than the wild ones although when I get up at 3:00 A.M. although it's a creepy feeling knowing I'm being watched by wildlife making a decision about their potential next meal. This last rabbit infestation because of the rains really brought the wildlife around.
Shane January 15, 2013 at 11:31 am
So you need an assault rifle to kill them all?? Thats why you have absolutely no credibility Roberto. You and Eveybody else knows the President does not want your hunting rifle, just powerful assault weapons and clips that handle more than 10 rounds.

Katrina and Sandy are great examples of what could happen to society. Shane you may be standing around looking for food and water and I will be set and looking for a place to stay out of state until things are back to normal. It's just the reality of it. A good normal person will hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Many people may die from falling big screen TVs and then they will blame the manufacturer. These people are not normal but this is the reality we live in these days. Good luck Shane and don't bother Roberto when the Big one hits.

LBV Collins January 16, 2013 at 12:25 am
There was a mountain lion sighting in my neighborhood about two months ago. It was twilight and someone watched it wander down the street. And I agree: there are lots of wabbits for food to feed these carnivores. As I noted previously, the coyotes I saw were large, about the size of a German Shepard. And they were very, very healthy. Not like other coyotes I've seen in years past... which were scrawny, thin, small... looking malnourished. Nope, these guys had a very good year.
The other thing that's a bit unnerving about these sightings is that the animals aren't timid nor skittish. They brazenly walk or slowly trot down the street. They have no fear.
LBV Collins January 16, 2013 at 12:28 am
Hi KredibleKKKleiner. I've not read about anyone planning to take away the stuff we already own. But they do want to curtail future sales.

All comes down to getting the "GOLD" Balanced right in the big City Hall right? We areRead More broke we are broke! We have how many more million dollar residents, ranches, farms who pay taxes, how many more business's, triple, quadruple, on and on that pay taxes, and some very large business's at that for YEARS. Yet Murietta and Menifee with just the few they have can manage to not only put in side walks, AND ALSO ACTULLY Listen their residents, instead of call them names like Paul has been, concerns and respond to them. Hell we are just now getting some attention to our driving issues with running red lights, speeding, not stopping at stop signs, driving drunk, high, or wreeklessly causing deaths and serious injuries to walkers, bike riders, skate board, scooter riders, wheelchairs, motor bike riders, and other cars. But how many lives were lost or severly disabled until we just now the last 2 weeks have been giving traffic details for different areas, cell phone details, etc. Lucky to get some sidewalks finished in 10 years if someone doesnt figure out where our "Gold" is we all pay in. And stop calling names people at the City meetings to Paul or anyone else trying to get our City to do what its there for. By the time someone in your own family is killed they will be laughing at you for standing up asking for sidewalks right? Just like on the "Patch" comment areas, always calling names instead of sticking with your fellow Temeculites and getting us something DONE! Before we loose more lives
