Suspect in Temecula Homicide Dies

The Temecula man who killed his wife and then shot himself has died, a sheriff's sergeant said Sunday.

John Leonard Houston, 65, died Saturday at 6:10 p.m. at a hospital, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Tyson Voss said. He allegedly gunned down his wife, Dana, 51, on Thursday in their Del Rey Road home, and turned the gun on himself.

Sheriff's deputies received a call shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday about an assault with a deadly weapon at a home in the 30000 block of Del Rey Road.

Deputies arrived, surrounded the home and tried several times to get the residents to come out. When that failed the deputies then stormed in and found Dana Houston dead from several gunshot wounds.

The suspect was also found but with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sheriff's Lt. Joe Borja reported.

John Houston was taken to the hospital in critical condition but died that night. There were no other suspects involved in the fatal shooting and the case was considered domestic in nature, Borja said.
