WOW First Wednesdays FREE Concert Series: Carlos Olmeda

Finding it hard to get over the hump? The WOW First Wednesdays concert series at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (the Center) will help you bust out of that mid-week slump and get you groovin' toward the weekend.

The best part? It's completely free! And now there are three show times to choose from!

Held the first Wednesday of the month in the 400-seat Center Theater, the WOW First Wednesdays series boasts a diverse lineup, with performances expertly curated to fulfill every musical desire. For the 2013-14 season, concert-goers will be transported to the French Quarter, the Caribbean and the 1930s through the melodies of the High Society Jazz Band, The Sound of Pan, Sweethearts of Swing and many more.

The Center expanded WOW First Wednesdays this season to offer a 1 p.m. performance in addition to the 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. shows. Up next in the WOW lineup is Carlos Olmeda, performing Nov. 6. Known as a songwriter's songwriter, Olmeda's eclectic musical taste is evident in his moving, rhythmic and multicultural concerts.

Olmeda proudly hails from the acoustic singer-songwriter school of performance. The big difference between his songwriting and performance style and that of so many others is that Olmeda's music transports you to a wide spectrum of emotional and cultural destinations. At any given show, fans can hear at least four different songwriting styles in at least two languages performed with heartfelt passion as well as a sense of humor. Olmeda has the innate ability to make each fan feel as if the song was written for and sung directly to them.

Following Olmeda, the next installment of WOW First Wednesdays will be held Dec. 4 with performances by Wyatt Lowe & The Youngbloods. Just back from the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn., Wyatt Lowe & The Youngbloods are an all-youth blues trio out of Temecula, Calif. Audiences will enjoy their driving sound made up of soulful blues, rockabilly and roots.
