"Carnitas-Free" Burritos at Freeb!rds World Burrito!

Freedb!rds World Burrito Food Review -What's your experience?

Driving through Temecula around dinner time, opens a lot of eating opportunities here in town.  Let's face it, there are no shortages of eating establishments in this area.

I have been thinking about the freshness and robustness of the burritos at Chipotle for a few days now, and that's exactly where I was heading tonight.  It was until I saw Freedb!irds World Burritos.  This is a joint I wanted to try anyway, so what an opportunity to compare the two.

The restaurant was dead at dinner time so there was no wait.  I was greeted by a very friendly associate that did a good job showing me all the different options for my burrito:

SPINACH TORTILLAFLOUR TORTILLACAYENNE TORTILLAWHEAT TORTILLACILANTRO LIME OR SPANISH RICEREFRIED BEANSWHOLE PINTOSBLACK BEANSLETTUCEMIXED GREENSWHITE ONIONSRED ONIONSTOMATOESPICO DE GALLOROASTED PEPPERS & ONIONSROASTED GARLICLIME JUICEROASTED LIMESRANCH DRESSINGANCHO DRESSINGTOMATILLO DRESSINGSALSAPOBLANO SALSABAD ASS BBQMILD TOMATILLOHOT TOMATILLODEATH SAUCEHABANERO SAUCE
OK, no shortage of options here, this is bound to be good!  I opted for the original carnitas burrito on a cayenne tortilla, refried beans, cilantro lime rice and salsa.  I wanted to keep it simple so I could indulge in the true essence of the flavor, and not drown it out with all the "stuff".
Again, with nobody in front of me; I went straight to the cashier only to find her pre-occupied with her purse, and her back to me.  She did not excuse herself and had problems reading the writing on the bag of what I had ordered.
My first bite was busting out with the refried beans and I could taste the cilantro lime rice from the get go.  I was all over this thing like white on rice.  I could not wait to taste the carnitas.  This is the point where I want to compare this place to Chipotle.  As I kept eating, it was obvious!  This joint skimped on the "meat" of the burrito.  I think I found about a tablespoon of Carnitas.  What a disappointment!
So to the two ex-hippies that started this establishment in ’87 near the beach in Santa Barbara, I give it a big two thumbs down!
Freeb!rds offers pot brownies on their menu.  I think these guys need to take it easy on these brownies and get consistent with their food portions.
So the next time you want a good rice and bean burrito, order the Carnitas!

Cheers!

Me too! I was really disappointed. I was hoping for another option a little closer to home. Thanks for the comment!

I wanted to like it... but it's a waste of money compared to Chipotle. Not worth the hype.

Aztek Tacos has amazing Carne Asada, and I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed by the amount of meat in their burritos. This is my new favorite Mexican food in Temecula.

Where is Aztek? I would love to try their carne asada!

I think there are 2. I know one is on 79S at Butterfield Stage the other was by BJ's. Haven't been there in a while not sure if they are still there.

Thanks Jessica, I'll have to try this place! I can picture it now.

All of their beans are cooked in oil and not lard. For the vegetarians out there, Freebirds is one of the few places to go for mexican food that won't result in frequent trips to the bathroom after. But yeah, I like chipotle better.

Hi Olivia, Thanks for the comments. I was at Shogun a few years ago and sat at the same table with the owner of the Hot Dog Shoppe. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time now. What didn't you like about it? Also, let me know if you have any suggestions for me to conduct a food review.
Cheers, Fatt Jimmy

First when I walked in the cashier was eating In N Out so it made me want to go to In N Out, second I ordered a chili dog with Cheese, but when it came out to the table it was more like boiled hamburger meat on top with no cheese and tasteless. The soda was good lol

for a good Burrito, go to Miguel Jr's...

The chicken at Chipotle is grilled and tastes far better than the chicken at Freebird which appears to be baked, dry and tastless.

They are both still there. Aztek is hands down best burritos in town. Get it queso style.

All comes down to getting the "GOLD" Balanced right in the big City Hall right? We areRead More broke we are broke! We have how many more million dollar residents, ranches, farms who pay taxes, how many more business's, triple, quadruple, on and on that pay taxes, and some very large business's at that for YEARS. Yet Murietta and Menifee with just the few they have can manage to not only put in side walks, AND ALSO ACTULLY Listen their residents, instead of call them names like Paul has been, concerns and respond to them. Hell we are just now getting some attention to our driving issues with running red lights, speeding, not stopping at stop signs, driving drunk, high, or wreeklessly causing deaths and serious injuries to walkers, bike riders, skate board, scooter riders, wheelchairs, motor bike riders, and other cars. But how many lives were lost or severly disabled until we just now the last 2 weeks have been giving traffic details for different areas, cell phone details, etc. Lucky to get some sidewalks finished in 10 years if someone doesnt figure out where our "Gold" is we all pay in. And stop calling names people at the City meetings to Paul or anyone else trying to get our City to do what its there for. By the time someone in your own family is killed they will be laughing at you for standing up asking for sidewalks right? Just like on the "Patch" comment areas, always calling names instead of sticking with your fellow Temeculites and getting us something DONE! Before we loose more lives
