Fun With Two Bucks: Wine and Hiking

Rob Hicks, the interpreter of Santa Rosa Plateau, talks about the fun you can have for $2.

By far more people ask me about hiking at the Santa Rosa Plateau than any event, with the horse events gaining momentum in a strong second position.

Invariably, when TemMurrians join they want to know if or when we can go hiking. So much so that I often email a bunch of friends and 10 or 15 people show up.

Once there were RSVPs for about five or six, and 19 showed up instead. Yeah, what a great challenge to have!

I wasn’t expecting them, so we left and literally bumped into the rest of them on the trail. We had an absolute blast.

Another time no one RSVPed, so I went alone. I kept hearing my name being called. Eight of my friends spontaneously showed up, and we had the most fun.

Still another time, Walter -- one of my club's members -- and I went and stumbled upon the Adobe Loop Trail, which is breathtakingly beautiful. Ahhh! I won’t even spoil it for you by being more descriptive. Suffice it to say you will love it.

Back to the Two-Buck Chuck. You read it right. A day pass at the plateau is $2. I’m sure you have heard of Two-Buck Chuck. It’s okay. You don’t have to admit it. Point being what on earth or, better yet, where on earth can you go and experience pure excitement of your senses for $2?

I’m telling you where: the Santa Rosa Plateau. You can have a picnic by the adobes. If you have horses or dogs, there are designated trails you can travel.

Gorgeous plant life. Fresh air. Exercise. Nature. All for $2.

I’m for tossing in the Two-Buck Chuck for Two-Buck Rob at the Santa Rosa Plateau.

Special thanks to Rob Hicks for his willingness to conduct the interview with me. I will post another interview shortly.

He freely shared so many things that I had no idea about the plateau. I must admit, it caused me to be even more thankful of this treasure off of Clinton Keith and the 15 freeway. You will feel transported to a different place and time.

Can you tell how much I love it?

I have bloopers from my trips there as well. Perhaps Janet -- another club member -- will give me permission to show when she fell down and went boom. She’s fine. It was hilarious. For once, I wasn’t the one with the Lucy moment. I’ll share a few of mine too.
