Fest's First Film Tugs on Heart Strings

Is there science in finding true love? "Losing Control" tries to find an answer.

What happens when a young scientist applies the rules of science to finding true love? That's what we discover in this fresh, funny independent film, shot mainly in and around Boston, particularly the Harvard campus.

Losing Control evokes a light-hearted, clever tone as a charmingly neurotic Harvard grad student attempts to apply the rules of science in finding "the one."

She strikes a note with her audience as she fears making a big mistake in a series of hilarious dating "experiments" she hopes will offer her conclusive evidence of true love.

Will they succeed, or has love been there all along? Find out by seeing this funny, romantic comedy at the Film Festival this week. It's a great date film. I give it three hearts.

The film stars Miranda Kent (Campus Ladies), Reid Scott (My Boys, The Big C), Kathleen Robertson (90210, Hollywoodland), Lin Shaye
(There's Something About Mary), Bitsie Tulloch (Quarterlife, Harvard
alum) and Steve Howey (Shameless, Something Borrowed).  It was
written and directed by Valerie Weiss, a Harvard alum from HMS '01 who
did her PhD in X-ray Crystallography before turning to a full-time
filmmaking career.

There is music in the film by fantastic up-and-coming artists like Eleisha Eagle, Ruth Gerson, The Features and The Blasting Company and the movie is scored by John Swihart (Napolean Dynamite, Youth in Revolt).
