Lights, Camera, Action!

The curtains raised on the Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival.

Yesterday, I covered the 17th Annual Film and Music Festival in Temecula.

This is kind of a big deal in this town. It won't attract the swagger and paparazzi of the Sundance Film Fest, but it's important in it's own right.

Many critics love this one because of it's size, and that it still gives small-budget film makers a chance to have their hard work seen and appreciated by a larger audience.

There are some great stories that simply don't get film time, and for that you have the independent, or "Indie," film market. You also get to see talent from unknown artists stretching their wings before they become famous and start commanding ridiculous salaries.

I am excited after reading reviews from veterans who have covered this festival and who feel it's worth it's salt. The stars will be out.

In the past, the fest has drawn Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson. This year, they are expecting Virginia Madsen, Oren Peli, Connie Stevens and others. Cybill Shephard will present Peter Bogdonovich with an Outstanding Achievement Award, 40 years after he jumpstarted her career.

Opening Night's festivities began last night with a Red Carpet Premiere. The event will run through Sept 18 at the at the Tower Plaza Shopping Center.
