Elks Invite Local Students to Enter Scholarship Contest; Top Award $50K

The Elks National Foundation awards 20 top winners scholarships ranging from $20,000 to $50,000. The remaining 480 runners-up receive $4,000 scholarships.

The Temecula Valley Elks are happy to announce that the Applications for the Elks National Foundation’s 2013-14 “Most Valuable Student” contest are available on line (www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm). The applications must be downloaded from the website, but if anyone has questions, you call the Lodge at (951) 695-7470. Applications, for the 2013-2014 Scholarship Contest must be submitted to the Temecula Valley Elks on or before December 6, 2013.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 scholarships nationally to the highest-rated boys and girls in the 2013-2014 competition, The “Most Valuable Student" Scholarship contest, which launched September 1 and will lessen the cost of college tuition for 500 deserving students. The Foundation awards 20 top winners scholarships ranging from $20,000 to $50,000. The remaining 480 runners-up receive $4,000 scholarships.

This scholarship is available to all high school seniors who are United States citizens. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks.  Males and females compete separately, and are judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Completed applications must be turned in to the applicant’s nearest Elks Lodge, no later than December 6, 2013. The 500 national winners will be announced in late April.

Also available, from the California Hawaii Elks Association are Vocational Grants for students who plan to pursue an eligible vocational or technical course, above and supplemental to high school or preparatory school level. A high school diploma or equivalent is not required. Applicants must reside within the jurisdiction of the California-Hawaii Elks Association and be citizens of the United States.  Graduating high school seniors may apply, however this program is not limited to high school students. It is also open to older prospective students who require training or retraining to compete in the workplace. This grant may be used for tuition and fees, room and board (only if living on campus) and books and supplies. It may be used only for the usual and required costs of an applicant’s planned course of study. Applications are available from the Elks’ website at www.chea-elks.org/scholarshipmenu.  Vocational Grant applications are due three months after receiving an application.

The Vocational Grant application must be endorsed by the Scholarship Chairman or Secretary of the Lodge closest to the residence of the applicant. The closest Lodge for students residing in Temecula or Murrieta would be the Temecula Valley Elks.
