Filthy dogs inside Sprouts on Winchester!

This tatted lady had her German Shepherd panting in front of the produce. I asked the manager to eject her dog and she said it was a "service animal"  This lady wasn't blind and had no disabilities..She then proudly claimed "I don't have to show proof it's a service dog!"  What the hell is wrong with you people?  Now you want fleas and dog filth in your lettuce? The manager looked scared like he might be sued, so he did nothing.  Since when did we lose control like this?
No animals in the grocery stores!  except seeing eye dogs.. PERIOD!

It is against state Health and Safety Laws for animals other than LEGAL service animals to be in stores that sell food. Period. The key is legal service dogs (and yes, dogs only). The stores live in fear of being "sued" because they do NOT know the full law. It is ILLEGAL, yes it is against FEDERAL LAW, to impersonate a disabled person and FALSELY claim a dog a "service" dog. They can GO TO PRISON as well as be fined for doing so. The stores only know HALF of the law, so they are never in full compliance with the law. You are not supposed to ask what the disability is, however, you are absolutely allowed (and if selling food REQUIRED to) ask WHAT SERVICE THE DOG PROVIDES. The animal must be trained to DO SOMETHING that aides the person in their disability specifically. It IS NOT A SERVICE DOG IF IT'S MERE PRESENCE (ie "comfort") is all that it provides. "Comfort" dogs is simply a fancy name for pet. These untrained dogs are a health and safety threat to all costumers, but are especially a threat to any true service dog because they can attack and injure a true service animal. These dogs take years and tens of thousands of dollars to train. Falsifying a service dog is worse than parking in a handicapped parking due to the impact it has on ALL customers. These people are nothing but bullies who think that their desires are more important and super cede the RIGHTS of others. Keep pets at home, or those of us who know the law might just insist the cops get involved and prosecute under FEDERAL LAW.

As an extra side note on the cleanliness issue of service dogs... The law also reads that even a TRUE service dog can be asked to leave if it is not clean, or behaving well. The dog is supposed to almost disappear to others. Hence the reason for the training....

This ordinance needs to change so a service vest or other identifier is required and only distributed by the state like handicap parking placards. Give people an inch....

You are very correct. Several of the groups that represent those with disabilities have been lobbying for this as the imposters make things incredibly difficult for them. People are getting fed up and as a result those who legitimately need them sometimes get the brunt of this. As I said before, the imposters also put their dogs in jeopardy because service dogs are trained to NOT engage. They are lobbying for a national certification process that will obviously require proof of training, but I agree that even a state level issuance would suffice. The imposters buy the "service" vests for their dogs online, so don't let a vest in and of itself fool you..... that's why this needs to be changed to certified proof. Also, in case people have forgotten... ALL dogs are supposed to have some kind of tags in public... registration.
