from a Temecula homeowner

Who else out there is having trouble with their Homeowner's Association??  I dug up my water-guzzling grass and planted California native drought-tolerant plants, and my HOA hates it!

HOA's have a tendency to develop into fiefdoms- the President of the HOA sometimes thinks he /she, is lord of the manor and rules accordingly. Avoid HOA's

Unfortunately, it's too late for me; I'm in this house long-term. If anyone wants to get together and commiserate about similar experiences, or talk about water-wise landscaping, let me know.

.... or just to talk online about it! Ideas? Suggestions?

@Wolfcreek; You wrote "Was very tired of living next to people who feel they can do whatever they want." See, this is where the slippery slope begins. Property ownership is a fundamental plank of any liberty based society. You know, the old saying that applies to the English Law (the basis for our liberties) that a man's home is is castle? The idea that you own your property and can dispense with it as is your wish, not the government or any other aspiring ruling class? Is it a drag t live next door to someone who would paint their house pink? Sure I suppose. But then which is the greater intrusion? That you have a pink house next door or that your dislike of a pink house tramples upon property ownership rights?

@ Steve Newman; The best way to avoid and negate HOA's is to use the most effective means the populace has ever had; the pocketbook. If the populace were so inclined, and so determined, they could defund the whole concept of HOA's by simply refusing to cooperate or purchase. Would this be inconvienent and initially difficult? Of course! But if new development communities found a steady lack of interest due to the HOA's, ultimately they would have to cede the issue or hit bankruptcy.
