1 Dead in Hemet House Fire

The fire broke out in a single family house on the 300 block of South Weston Place, Griffith Way around 8 p.m Thursday, Hemet Fire Administrative Capt. Mike Spaulding said.

An investigation was underway today into a fatal house fire in Hemet.

The fire broke out in a single family house on the 300 block of South Weston Place, Griffith Way around 8 p.m Thursday, Hemet Fire Administrative Capt. Mike Spaulding said.     

One person was found dead in the living room of the house, Spaulding said, while the homeowner, a woman in her 60s, was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

The victim's identity was not immediately revealed.

Spaulding said the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and that it was a complete loss.

The fire was believed to have started in the living room of the house, Spaulding said, and its cause is under investigation.

Around 30 firefighters knocked the fire down in less than 15 minutes, Spaulding said.
