Norma Becerra, 28, has been identified by authorities as the victim in a fatal rollover crash Thursday morning east of Temecula.

At about 9:20 a.m., the Aguanga resident was traveling westbound on Wilson Valley Road at Thomas Road, driving at an estimated 50 or 55 mph when for an unknown reason she allowed her 2002 white Ford Escape to veer off the road in a northwesterly direction, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol Temecula Area office.

“The vehicle traveled up a small embankment which sent the vehicle airborne.  V-1 overturned and collided with the roadway,” wrote the reporting CHP officer.

Becerra was reportedly not properly buckled-in to her seatbelt, causing her to be ejected from the SUV as it overturned.

The Escape landed on its wheels in a northeasterly direction on the south shoulder and eastbound lane. Authorities discovered the fatally-injured woman lying nearby on the same side of the road. The 28-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene, at 10:02 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.

The roadway—midway between Sage Road and Highway 371—was closed for at least three hours as the crash was investigated.

The wreck was initially reported as fatal by CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, whose crews responded to the emergency.

Beautiful drive on that road; easy to be distracted by the view. 50mph is way too fast for that road though, and the Escape doesn't have the lowest center of gravity. The shoulder rises up from the side of the road around some of those curves. Too many things can go wrong. If you ever drive that road, just go slow and let the angry overconfident locals steam as you slow them down and save their lives. I see they said "estimated 50-55mph." If they based that on the tire marks if she tried to stop, that means it was at *least* 50-55mph (if she hadn't left the ground or the skid interrupted, accurate speed could have been measured by marks). Could have been even faster. Slow down.

That Temecula guy knows what he is talking about. I drove that route before it was paved. Fast drivers on dirt road make washboard.
