Two suspects were in custody after a French Valley home was allegedly burglarized Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's officials said.
Joseph Hayden, 20, and Brittany Ball, 22, both of Temecula were arrested a short time after they allegedly broke into a home in the 35000 block of Via Santa Catalina, said Sgt. David Cardoza, in a news release.
Cardoza said that at approximately 2:48 p.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Southwest Station were called to the home regarding a burglary in progress. They arrived within minutes of the call being dispatched, he said.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the resident was inside the home when two suspects knocked on the front door, received no answer, and jumped the fence to the back yard," the sergeant said.
"The suspects entered the home through an unlocked rear door, and began to unplug electronic items inside the residence. The homeowner confronted the suspects, who fled the residence on foot before deputies arrived."
The victim described the alleged burglars as a white male and a white female in their 20s, Cardoza said.
Deputies searched the area or the suspects, who were located nearby and positively identified by the victim, Cardoza said.
Hayden and Ball were booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Both were being held in lieu of $25,000 bail as of Wednesday, according to sheriff's jail records, and were due in court Thursday.
Anyone with further information on the case was asked to call the Southwest Station at 951-696-3000.
