Alert Temecula Neighbor Helps Bust Burglary Suspects

Police say a neighbor spotted some people carrying a large television from his neighbors' home, and thought it was suspicious.

Three men were recently arrested in connection to multiple Temecula burglaries, thanks to someone who realized something was awry in his neighborhood, police report.

It began on Thursday, when someone called police about a possible burglary in the 42000 block of Agena Street, around 7:30 p.m.

"A citizen witnessed a black male adult, who was unfamiliar to the neighborhood, carrying a large television out of the front door of his neighbors’ home," Riverside County Sheriff's Sergeant Steve Fredericks said.  "The citizen observed the male place the television in a waiting vehicle and drive away."

After calling police, that citizen "began driving through the neighborhood," and spotted the same vehicle that he had just reported, in the 41000 block of Asteroid Way.

Cops were then sent to both addresses, according to Fredericks.

"Officers at the Asteroid Way address observed two black male adults fleeing through the backyard and jumping fences throughout the neighborhood," he said.

That's when the sheriff's department set up a perimeter in the area, and called out a helicopter and Murrieta PD's K9 to aid in the search, according to Fredericks.  Three men were ultimately taken into custody.

"Dondre Porter, a 20-year-old resident of Hemet, was apprehended while attempting to hide under a bush," he said.  "Paul Keller, a 23-year-old resident of San Jacinto, was apprehended after a brief struggle when officers found him jumping a fence from a backyard."

The third person, identified as 19-year-old Demaggio Wright of Perris,  was eventually brought in by Murrieta's K9 officer, according to the sergeant.

"Wright sustained a bite from a police service dog after resisting officers, and was treated for his injuries at a local hospital," he said.

No other men are suspected in the two break-ins.

"All stolen property items, which included various electronics and jewelry, were recovered from the suspects," Fredericks said.  "Porter, Keller, and Wright were booked at the Southwest Detention Center for residential burglary, criminal conspiracy, and resisting arrest.  Additionally, Keller was wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant from a previous burglary charge."
