UPDATE: Armed Robbers at Large in French Valley

A man was robbed as he returned home from a French Valley bank today, police said.

UPDATED AT 9:40 A.M., MARCH 10, 2012.

Sheriff's officials today backed away from a police dispatcher's statement about the amount of money stolen from a man as he sat parked in his vehicle in unincorporated Murrieta.

The alleged victim also called Patch to ask that the amount of money be removed from an already published story.

However, that amount was provided by a dispatch report, not sheriff's officials.

Original dispatch reports stated that a man was robbed of a certain amount about 4 p.m. Friday at Willows Avenue and Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

However, a sheriff's official said the amount of money was undisclosed and that it was not the amount originally called into law enforcement officers by a dispatcher.

The investigation was continuing.

A man was allegedly robbed as he returned home from a bank today in unincorporated Murrieta.

The robbery was reported at 4 p.m. on Willows Avenue at Murrieta Hot Springs Road, according to a sheriff's dispatcher.

According to the dispatcher -- not sheriff's officials or the alleged victim -- the amount of money taken was $25,000 but that was unconfirmed.

Sheriff's Deputy Angel Ramos said two Latinos -- both in their early 20s -- approached the victim as he sat in his vehicle near Sky Canyon Drive.

The investigation continued Friday evening.
