UPDATE: Woman's Death in French Valley May be Hit-And-Run

The incident at Brookridge Lane, near Washington Street, was reported at 8:45 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.

This story was updated at 2:32 p.m. to include the cross street and that the victim was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta.

The discovery of a woman found dead in French Valley Friday prompted an investigation into a possible hit-and-run, officials told Patch.

The woman "appears ... to have been hit by a vehicle," Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell told Patch.

Officials said it was a joint investigation between the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County sheriff's deputies.

Officers were called at 8:45 a.m. to the area of Brookridge Lane, near Washington Street, McConnell said.

"We are in the preliminary stages of an investigation," CHP Sgt. Cory Ball said.

Ball told Patch at the scene that the woman -- she was listed as 69 -- went out for a walk Friday morning but failed to return as expected; the family went looking for her, the sergeant said.

"She was found along the right side of the road," Ball said ... unconscious with severe traumatic injuries."

The woman was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta, where she was pronounced dead, the sergeant told Patch.

Her identity is not being released until it is confirmed by the county coroner's office, according to Ball.

Anyone who may have seen the crash was asked to call the Temecula office of the California Highway Patrol, 951-506-2000.

The area is near a new housing development and near a park in French Valley, Patch learned at the scene.

Pt 1 Then LS jumps in and says: LS 10:16 am on Sunday, September 23, 2012Is it possible to update this article? I don't want to go in to details but it has been said that her injuries were investigated and they do not resemble a hit and run. LS11:25 am on Sunday, September 23, 2012I knew her personally. This was news that I was given by a close family friend of her's yesterday. No article online has been update since Friday afternoon, so unfortunately there would be no way for anyone to know unless you knew her personally. I know what the article says but that information was originally given to everyone at that time. LS11:49 am on Sunday, September 23, 2012Articles also do not say that she was talking on the phone when it happened. So it is clear that it hasn't been updated. Then Joy you come and jump on the bandwagon berating someone or all of us, I am not sure. One could only assume it is ALL of us and your attempt to appear crime scene saavy and the rest of us jumping the gun and make presumptions about the death that are not clearly given as FACT in this one article.
Brenda September 24, 2012 at 02:56 AM
Pt3 You say that these first people to the dying woman found it interesting, when in fact I doubt very seriously if anyone was worried about CSI, how a crime investigation starts, evidence determined, numbered, photographed, analyzed there if need be, collected to maintain its integrity and every John there to sign off on it. All of which was NOT going on when these first residents of the area got to this woman. Not everyone might know that some things are withheld from the media and that certainly does not make them ignorant, or mean they watch too many CSI shows. LOL, and why you would come here and grasp all these straws to make a comment about regular people, lay person so to speak, is way beyond me. You have people assuming that you are berating them and calling them stupid, which in so many nicely worded words YOU ARE. Going on the one and only presumption given to the public by the police of what occured there is nothing the few neighborhood posters have said or done that would hamper this investigation. No one has speculated(cutting out all the wordy bru ha ha that doesnt matter)and is only being helpful if keeping an eye out for a newly dented car.
Brenda September 24, 2012 at 02:57 AM
pt4 As far as devils advocate I often take that form and in this case there was nothing in the article, in the area where this happened, the condition of this woman to suggest it was anything other then a hit and run at this time. However the one comment about a cell phone call, is new possible evidence, but being told 3, or 4 party is not viable at this point to us here. Bottom line, not really sure why you would put a comment like yours here other then to berate, make others feel like you are saying they are ignorant, or stupid. All evidence and statements have been taken thus far and maybe the case is taking a different turn then hit and run. Either way this dear and obviously much loved woman is dead and her MANY Friends, neighbors and family are grieving and do not read a post about how ignorant the patch readers are about Evidence, practice and procedures from you. LS came here just to get the neighborhood worried it might be a killer or robber on the loose, or some other culprit. You do not come here and suggest or say such things, as a friend of the family, as the police would give out a warning if they knew something different. Go talk big word evidence and procedures at the local college because simple laymen who saw their friend die are not interested in what you have to say.
Brenda September 24, 2012 at 03:04 AM
Joy YOU ARE attacking, and in elaborate equally disquised and intelligent writing so some might not even realize they are being insulted. Basically being called ignorant. I don't know where you came from, but this little community neighborhood has been horribly affected by this death of such a wonderful woman that everyone knew. Please just leave them alone. I think I explained enough in my quickly written post, too long, that explains how people feel, and it has nothing to do with the things you are bringing up, suggesting etc. Be nice and understanding, or don't say anything at all, and sure play devils advocate, free speech and all that but why go into all this now, here? At this point there is no other evidence known of to prove it was anything other then hit and run today. Tomorrow that could change. Who knows. All of these neighbors were going to help in such a wonderful way with all they had to keep eyes open, and until the police say different they should.
Brenda September 24, 2012 at 03:12 AM
JOY geesh, stop lashing out at her for Godsake and making threats. She has done nothing to you or anyone else here. You are butting into a extremely sensitive subject and your posts are certainly not helping the family and friends at this point, and I should not have even answered you in the first place trying to defend.
Laura September 24, 2012 at 05:17 AM
My prayers and thoughts go out to the victim and her family. I am so sorry for your loss, and may the person that has done this, turn themselves in. You have my sincere condolences.
V.W.D.S. September 24, 2012 at 03:33 PM
Been following the comments - regardless of what actually happened this is such a tragedy. My prayers to the family and that the person/s involved are caught soon, I pray they do not have to suffer not knowing. It seems pretty rural out there - I hope folks realize they need to walk in groups or with a partner, stay alert, its very sad, but we don't live in a time when things are safe, someone that would hit a person and keep going is sick - if it wasn't a hit and run, causing trauma to an innocent person is just as sick. How awful for all.
V.W.D.S. September 24, 2012 at 06:10 PM
The coroner will be informing the family of the injuries as traumatic as that is, I do hope they inform the public as to the nature of this crime. Hopefully to save others. Just so horribly sad.
V.W.D.S. September 24, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Well Joy, maybe someone 'in the know' ought to just come forth with the facts instead of having to glean information from blogs. I find your arrogance in these posts offensive. It really doesn't matter 'who' you are really, unless you are law enforcement, in which case you are even more offensive. Alot of people live in that community and surrounding areas. We as a community don't know what happened other than what has been reported - If this situation could put others in jeapardy it is in the best interest of the public to know the facts. We don't need gruesome details - the lady should have her honor in her passing, but we should know whether they believe it was a deadly assault, or a mistaken vehicle accident.
V.W.D.S. September 25, 2012 at 02:55 AM
Look, Toree, you should not worry about what you might have said. I had a very close personal friend become a victim of a homicide a few years ago. The investigators did not give us any information - they released conflicting stories as to what happened leaving family and friends confused - which at the time was hurtful, and we all spent endless hours speculating. now, I realize they were working on an investigation behind the scenes. Family and friends speculated the details, thought out possible motives and accused a variety of individuals in our search to make sense of it. There is nothing you can say that would harm the investigation, they are 'on it' and you and I are not privy to that investigation. I noticed on the Riverside Sheriffs dept webpage that they have not officially released information on the coroner's report - basically this tells me this is much more than a 'hit and run'. They indicate there is a pending investigation. Meanwhile - it would benefit all to stay close to each other, watch out for kids, and don't walk alone. keep doors(including garage doors )and windows locked and pay attention to people that are lingering or seem to be out of place. Don't be afraid to call in information either. They always welcome information.

well this is posted on PE.com - gives alot more information: http://www.pe.com/local-news/riverside-county/temecula/temecula-headlines-index/20120924-french-valley-womans-death-under-investigation.ece

If this information is correct, it appears that being struck by the car might have been an afterthought. My heart goes out to this family, I know the pain of losing a loved one to a senseless violent crime. It takes alot of time to heal, and the grieving process cannot be rushed. To this day I am affected by the violent loss of my friend. I take nothing for granted that is for sure. God Bless her family.

Marie...I totally agree with your comment about drivers speeding on Washington and other streets in that area. I routinely observe cars speeding at 65 or 70 mph in the area and NO law enforcement, so what can we expect? We can expect more fatalities by irrsponsible drivers who routinely speed in that area and NO law enforcement to attempt to curb the wanton speeding.

Wow! Joy certainly hates Lindy and Brenda. I for one appreciate both of your comments/speculations. Sorry Joy is so nasty to you... but welcome to my world.

Anita, If you go back to the very first article about this tragedy, Joy came out with both barrels loaded(pardon the pun) on about the 7 or so comment. Came out spouting legal and police investigation jargon that I know you and I understand but that some others would not. Joy was threatening them, and that she/he/it knew this person and that person and would "Tell" people about their posts, and blah blah. Why i have no clue, other then of course its a no name person none of us know in Temecula Patch. Lindy was a victim but like me was not scared by her. Somewhere in there she went to work on me, and why I don't know. I strive hard to keep it on the subject matter, especially this one for godsake and we have someone picking fights and threatening others on a article about a murder. She apparently followed my life to somewhere and posted my personal information on the Patch. Haent run across it yet, but most of you know me, about me, but can we say stalker? Should I feel special? Heck my life is so exciting it need a whole Patch article though not just a comment, Geesh. So I believe the only two Joy is still harrassing and stalking is myself and LIndy. Good luck Anita and will I see you Sunday at the park for Wanda?
