Border Patrol: Liquid Meth Found Hidden in Car at I-15 Checkpoint

A large freezer bag allegedly containing approximately 8.3 pounds of liquid methamphetamine was discovered hidden in a gas tank at the I-15 Border Patrol checkpoint south of Temecula.

A suspected drug smuggler was taken into custody Wednesday at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 15 south of Temecula when agents allegedly found a large quantity of liquid methamphetamine hidden in his car.

Agents stopped the suspect, a 35-year-old male Mexican national, at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday as he approached the checkpoint in a red 2008 Ford Fiesta, according to U.S. Border Patrol Agent Scott E. Simon.

"Agents became suspicious of the man’s nervous demeanor and referred him for a secondary inspection," said Simon, in a news release.

Border Patrol K9 team performed a cursory inspection of the Ford, resulting in an alert, he said.

Agents searched the car and discovered a large freezer bag inside of the gas tank containing a yellowish liquid, he said.

"The fluid in the bag tested positive for liquid methamphetamine and weighed a total of 8.38 pounds with an estimated street value of $167,600," Simon said.

The suspected smuggler and narcotics were taken into custody and turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation, he said.

The car was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

The good news is he will be able to stay in this country since he is illegal and collect SSI and get free college tuition, a driver's license. Oh and let's not forget all the free medical he needs.

Does the DEA do as much for illegal immigration as the Border Patrol does for drug enforcement?
Robert August 24, 2012 at 02:55 pm
Why would we turn it over to ICE?

Another illegal Mexican national bringing in drugs, we catch, and then have to feed, house for the 4 yr sentence he will get before we send him back to Mexico right, to do it all over again?
Yes Sam, dragging him, or actually any drug maker or transporter(any color skin or nationality) behind a car for a few miles sounds good to me, can I watch? Good job border patrol, drugs that someone wont get.

Good question and no, the DEA does nothing for illegal immigration at all. Unfortunately though, the issue is often mingled as illegal immigrants often smuggle and/or traffick in people, firearms and narcotics and yes, U.S. Citizens often do the same. There's plenty of work to go around.

I don't get why he is a "suspected smuggler"? The guy was caught transporting therefore he is a smuggler.

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

All comes down to getting the "GOLD" Balanced right in the big City Hall right? We areRead More broke we are broke! We have how many more million dollar residents, ranches, farms who pay taxes, how many more business's, triple, quadruple, on and on that pay taxes, and some very large business's at that for YEARS. Yet Murietta and Menifee with just the few they have can manage to not only put in side walks, AND ALSO ACTULLY Listen their residents, instead of call them names like Paul has been, concerns and respond to them. Hell we are just now getting some attention to our driving issues with running red lights, speeding, not stopping at stop signs, driving drunk, high, or wreeklessly causing deaths and serious injuries to walkers, bike riders, skate board, scooter riders, wheelchairs, motor bike riders, and other cars. But how many lives were lost or severly disabled until we just now the last 2 weeks have been giving traffic details for different areas, cell phone details, etc. Lucky to get some sidewalks finished in 10 years if someone doesnt figure out where our "Gold" is we all pay in. And stop calling names people at the City meetings to Paul or anyone else trying to get our City to do what its there for. By the time someone in your own family is killed they will be laughing at you for standing up asking for sidewalks right? Just like on the "Patch" comment areas, always calling names instead of sticking with your fellow Temeculites and getting us something DONE! Before we loose more lives
