Boy, 6, Killed in Temecula Collision; Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Driver Bradley Megginson Jr., 25, of Temecula, was arrested following the pedestrian collision that was reported at about 5 p.m Sunday at Main and Pujol streets.

A 25-year-old man suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol was in custody today and facing a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy in Temecula.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Main and Pujol streets around 5 p.m. Sunday, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

"The child was transported by firefighter paramedics and perished at the hospital," Hendrickson said.

The boy "ran into the roadway from behind a parked vehicle and was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Pujol Street," said Temecula police Sgt. John Magnan.

Driver Bradley Megginson Jr., 25, of Temecula was not injured and remained at the scene, Magnan said.

Investigating officers interviewed Megginson and several witnesses at the scene. "At this time in the investigation, alcohol involvement is suspected as a factor in the collision," Magnan said.

Megginson was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to the sheriff's inmate records. Bail was set at $75,000 and Megginson was set to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
