A motorist narrowly escaped injury Saturday when his vehicle went off the 15 Freeway and down 175 feet into a storage shed south of Temecula, authorities said.
The crash on the northbound Interstate 15, south of the truck-weighing scales in Rainbow, was reported at 4:54 p.m.
California Highway Patrol Officer Randy Cooper told Patch at the scene that the motorist was speeding in the far left lane when he came upon slower traffic and swerved into the center divider.
"He came across the freeway and exited off the freeway from the embankment," Cooper said.
The officer said the motorist told firefighters that he passed out; he was taken to a hospital to be examined, Cooper said.
"Miraculously he had no injuries," the officer said, adding that the man had been wearing a seat belt.
"He's a very fortunate man.
"The not surprising thing is, he had a medical condition," Cooper told Patch.
