Car Plunges 175 Feet Into Shed, Driver Unhurt

The crash on the northbound Interstate 15, just south of the scales, was reported at 4:54 p.m.

A motorist narrowly escaped injury Saturday when his vehicle went off the 15 Freeway and down 175 feet into a storage shed south of Temecula, authorities said.

The crash on the northbound Interstate 15, south of the truck-weighing scales in Rainbow, was reported at 4:54 p.m.

California Highway Patrol Officer Randy Cooper told Patch at the scene that the motorist was speeding in the far left lane when he came upon slower traffic and swerved into the center divider.

"He came across the freeway and exited off the freeway from the embankment," Cooper said.

The officer said the motorist told firefighters that he passed out; he was taken to a hospital to be examined, Cooper said.

"Miraculously he had no injuries," the officer said, adding that the man had been wearing a seat belt.

"He's a very fortunate man.

"The not surprising thing is, he had a medical condition," Cooper told Patch.

This car almost hit me! Headed home frpm San Diego i was driving in fast lane with my husband and three kids in the car. This car came from the slow lane across all lanes cutting me off then into center embankment where he took out a sign. Then crossed all four lanes again and went off side of freeway. We pulled over and my husband went back to see if he could help. This man was standing next to his car that was in the shed smoking a cigarette... All i can say is thank god no one was hurt because this man almost took out my whole family of five TWICE.

I also saw this accident happen, and I was the person that notified the Boarder Patrol. Although, I am glad to know that the driver was unharmed- I am angry to know that his carelessness caused it. Now, I am having a lot of anxiety of driving because of what I witnessed.

Gloria and Christina, thank goodness he didnt hit anyone, including your cars with family in them. It is one of those very strange things to have happen and there are some medical conditions people should just NOT drive with and even non narcotic medications tell you not to drive because of side effects. "("The not surprising thing is, he had a medical condition," Cooper told Patch.)" At least I think I take this right. Not a clear statement.
