Car Pushed Into Harveston Lake

A car reportedly stolen from the Harveston Lake Community was pushed into the man made lake early Saturday and recovered with the help of divers after dawn.

A car was pushed into Harveston Lake Saturday and emergency workers had to drag it out but there was no sign of the pushers, sheriff's officials said.

Temecula police were called to the to investigate a report that several men were pushing a gray car into Harveston Lake, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Steven Fredericks said.


Arriving officers determined that the vehicle was already in the lake and the suspects who pushed it in had run away, Fredericks said.

Officers searched the area but could not find the men, the sergeant said.


The Temecula Fire Department sent divers into the lake to pinpoint the location of the submerged vehicle and ensure no one was trapped inside but the car was unoccupied, Fredericks said.

The Riverside County Sheriff Dive Team sent divers in at dawn and the 2010 Dodge Challenger was pulled out.

Investigators determined the car had been stolen from a nearby home in the Harveston development, the sergeat said.
